You're not getting his point.

They're not going to get into power, but them having more seats would be good as it means the government can't just push through what it wants.

Yea. I'm with you.  I'd say that the best way to achieve this is to vote out those policy makers and replace them with ones sympathetic to the cause.  Easier typed than done.
