Bundy was probably just looking for a scapegoat. I don't trust the words of a serial killer.
Now, it does bear mentioning that America is the 3rd largest consumer of porn per capita (1st & 2nd being Japan and Korea), but.... that says to me that Americans are too uptight about sex. Europeans are much more open about sex, and they don't buy nearly as much porn.
So, to me, it's not about "virtue" or "modesty", it's about being more mature and easygoing about sex and nudity. Japan and Korea are especially uptight about sex, so it's no wonder they are so addicted to porn.
To put it bluntly, we should be more like a country like France when it comes to sex. It's a natural function that no shame should be associated with, as long as no laws are being broken.
EDIT: By the way, good luck with the vasectomy. I'd get one myself if I didn't fear going to the doctor. I NEVER want kids.
I see what you're getting at here, and I can see how porn would do this to someone, but I don't see it getting this far with the average person. The average person isn't porn addicted -- or at least, I haven't seen any evidence to show that.IRONCHEF wrote:
Average porn effects people: Well, let's take your average college kid in a dorm. He spends lots of time in the bathroom doin' his thing. This goes on for months, years, etc. as is often the case with something so addictive. Is it reasonable to believe he will imagine those bathroom scenarios whenhe goes out on a date? Is it reasonable to suggest that he may not find his girlfriend as visually pleasing as his full time magazines?

Again, it's probably the stigma porn has here. We have these silly vestiges of Puritanism in our culture that remain despite the sexual revolution. If we'd be less uptight about it, we'd be a lot healthier.IRONCHEF wrote:
WHen someone looks at porn, acts on it, repeats it...this shows an obvious adhesiveness or growing addiction. It's that simple. In married life, this effects your spouse, your kids (especially daughters), and it can reflect in how you look on other woman. To take from the movie Shallow Hal, porn will cause you to look upon women with your head in the gutter rather than where it belongs. I can't believe I"m arguing this, but I guess we don't all accept such things..at least until we realize it's happening to us. lol
You bring up some interesting points, but I'm just saying that I think you're missing the forest for the trees. Maybe America is addicted to porn after all, but if it is, it's because of our silly "taboos."IRONCHEF wrote:
ANyway, if you can't see how it effects all who are ensnared by it, then I probably can't explain it to you. And since I'm probably the only advocate against porn on this site...I'll go ahead and leave this subject as I'm obviously outnumbered. lol
