Right, it's time for an upgrade!

Current:

AMD X2 4400+
nVidia 7500-LE
Generic HP MoBo (I presume..)
2GB Ram
320GB HDD

Thinking of upgrade:

ASUS Maximus Forumla Intel X38
Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 'Wolfdale' @3.00GHz
OcUk 8800GT 512MB DDR3
G.Skill 4GB PC2-8500C5
Zalman CNPS9700-LED CPU Cooler
OCZ GameXStream 700w Silent SLI Power Supply
320GB Fujitsu HDD
Fujitsu 16x CD Drive.

=£646.12 from OcUk. Not going over £700, excluding case.

Suggest improvements.

700w is overkill, 500 - 600 will do.
DVD drive might be better
Get a aftermarket GPU cooler like Thermalright HR-03 Plus.

I'd go for the E7200 over an E8400 and oc it. For gaming, the 3MB cache won't harm. Also get a SATA optical drive. I cannot in words express my hate for my IDE cable that has to run through my whole case, totally ruining my cable management, and passing right in front of my outtake fan.
The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

Can't you get rounded IDE cables?

Still have to extend to the connector. I've got the cable folded:

Ditch the HD for a 500gb samsung spinpoint
Ditch the CD drive for a liteon DVD RW
Go for lower wattage on power supply, but stay with OCZ gamextreme rather than stealthxtreme
E7200 then use money to go GTS instead of GT

QFT, never go IDE unless you have to reuse an old component, shitty cables and they come in two standards with most retailers not telling you which standard you're gonna get. SATA is the way forward.

That power supply sucks , I didnt like the connecters, it was noisy and didnt work properly.

This PSU is really good

Please tell me you decided it was "noisy and didnt work properly" after RMAing it and comparing it with similar power supplies.

WOW!

My first thought when seeing that was "he hasn't got any cables connected anywhere!".

Oh, and folding ribbon cables like that isn't a great idea - puts stress on the cable that they're not meant to have put on them in places they're not meant to have it put - but it can be okay if you're really careful about it.
