complaining about gas prices is like complaining about taxes.
15 more years! 15 more years!
That's the kind of attitude that allows this shit to go on.Mitch wrote:

Your statement proves the OP's point even more. You're exactly right, we've been paying this small amount for a long time, and now, things are starting to become unbalanced, and shift in a different direction. Regardless of who has been paying what, its these drastic changes that will result in a crisis.Dilbert_X wrote:
$4.00 a gallon? Waah waah waah - stop with the whingeing. The rest of the world has been paying more than that for about 20 years.
You still have the cheapest petrol in the developed world right?
Maybe buying something which does better than 20MPG might have been an idea, I mean does a student really need a 4.0 litre sports car to drive his siblings around in?

US citizens travel more during certain seasons, and not all people fly when they travel. I think you can finish it from here.Dilbert_X wrote:
So your govt would have done you a favour if they had increased fuel tax, reduced another tax and thereby encouraged everyone to buy more fuel efficient cars.
But noooooo the oil companies own the govt and they want you to burn it as fast as possible.
And what on earth is the US 'driving season' ?
illegal in California. and no way I'd bother trying. i go through 2 speed traps and several stop sign traps (the cop hides around little-used stop signs to grab people rolling through) on my way to school alone. think they wont stop me for biking on the sidewalk? think again. i've seen it.Sgt.Gene wrote:

There seriously has to be something wrong with you to want to ride a pedal bike on the road with cars.

What sort of distances are we talking here?Commie Killer wrote:
We have to travel many times the distance you need to to get from place to place. One of the reasons mass transit isnt going to/hasnt taken hold here.FatherTed wrote:

edit: @dilbert: i didn't buy the car. my parents did. it was dirt cheap and only 2 years used. thats why they got it. if i had been able to pick any car i could it would have been some kind of hybrid.
If he has a hard time paying for gas, I doubt a $150 ticket for riding a bike on the sidewalk will help him much. Its $150 for riding on the sidewalk, another $200 for riding through a stop sign, and the possibility of getting your bike impounded.Sgt.Gene wrote:

Too bad Diesel is $4.50 a gallon here. Not much of a solution.The#1Spot wrote:

There's more oil now than ever before and with new techology, they are able to go get it a lot more easily.Ender2309 wrote:
not really. its more the fact that the world's oil production is about to peak, meaning we're about to reach the amount at which oil is hard enough to find and procure that production will start to drop rather than climb. so its partially the oil companies in that they have to price competitively to keep the resource running, and partially that china and india are getting in the game and world population is climbing which all puts more strain on the supply.FallenMorgan wrote:

yes, like i said, we're reaching our peak supply. which is the most oil we can and ever will produce. its like a mountain. you spend all this time climbing up to the top and then you get back down in a quarter of the time.AutralianChainsaw wrote:

The high price of Oil is directly connected to the fall of the american dollar.. Oil is traded in US$ (for now).. If the dollar go down, those fckers get less for their oil so they boost the price.
So ask yourself why the american dollar is dropping..
Its partly due to the "war on terror" in Iraq and Afghanistan..
But it is mostly because of the Federal Reserve who is messing around with the interest rates to save the american economy.
Solution? America save their own economy, cut the spending, stop threatening major oil supplyers (Iran and Venezuela) , get out of the ME and save a lot of money..
In the end, the dollar go back up, America is saved from bankruptcy, Oil price go down, Everybody is happy, People all around the world go out dancing in the streets singing: THANK YOU AMERICA!!
