I wish I could remember everyday of my life. I could cheat on tests so easily.

I'd hate to remember having being born, diaper changes, anything bad happening.

In b4 someone unleashes the fury of repressed memories. lol

it's not unheard of, there are people with like 8x photographic memory, etc

generally they're autistic/savants and such, it would be extremely difficult as a normal person because we process the world differently, she's prolly fat like that because of stress from it

i don't see how she wouldn't be autistic, that kind of information load would be very difficult to store with a normal brain
especially as space starts loading up, she'd start falling away from being able to communicate on a normal basis with other people, and would probably just shy away from society

possible suicide case as well...

I don't buy a single word of that.

Why would remembering everything be so bad?

1. Memories are stored in the subconscious.
2. We all 'remember' everything anyway, it's just that we can't always recall some memories.

Constantly and vividly remembering bad things can be incredibly damaging to daily functions, especially coupled with mild cases of other mental disorders such as OCD or PTSD.

Yeah, that's true.

But that's different to just being able to remember everything.

Not really. Having such a transcendent memory makes not remembering those things so much harder.

Yeah, yeah, I understand what you mean.

What I mean is like, say, take the HDD in your PC - our memory is something like that - except everything we have ever done gets stored away - now, just as you PC doesn't continuously play back the entire contents of you HDD, only what you select for it to playback - a 'normal' brain doesn't continuously play back it's entire memory. The only difference is that we don't 'normally' have perfect recall, unlike a PC.

However, have now watched the video, and I now understand Blehms post - OMG, she says she has those memories on a continuous playback loop in her head - that is 'abnormal', and yeah, is going to cause all sorts of mental issues.

This probably all started when she burst into her parents room and caught them having sex. Now she's trying to remember everything she can in order to forget that one memory.

Believe me. You most certainly would not.

There was one man who also had this "disease", I remember reading about him - very intelligent, very powerful and very, very "cursed". It drove him to insanity and in the end, he spent his last few years in a darkly lit room reading books. I'm 100% confident that after a few months you would never want to hear about it. Although - you'd remember about hearing about it time and time again.

This is a damaging disease, not a pleasant experience.

Thats impossible you first develop proper memories at 3 years old (according to my Psychology textbook and teachers).

For the record this is how we are taught the memory work, or at least this is the main hypothesis.

Things go into your short term memory (STM) If you don't repeatedly rehearse that information e.g. think about it over and over, then after 18 seconds it will be lost. You generally remember between 5 and 9 pieces of data e.g. trigrams  i.e. 324, 567, 478,772, 127.

If your mind decides to process that then it will be transferred into the Long term memory (LTM). In the LTM the memories will last forever although they can be affected by decay (in a small amount) which would of course corrupt the memory.

Thats the very simple explanation of it without some of the other details of it that explain how STM decays and other ways in which STM information is lost, i would include case studies but i cba to find my textbook and i've just got back from a weekend hiking so i'm tired.

Hope that helps.
