What you need to know about them?

You basically set-up links between different databases, normally on the key, and whenever you change the value in one database it also simultaneously changes in the other corresponding database- quite simple.

I know plenty about relational databases, just finished another database assignment for uni actually.

What do you need to know? It sounds like your writing an essay on them, and not actually building one.

If that's the case, look up 1st, 2nd and 3rd normal forms in database design and the steps used to make the relationships stronger. If you want to then go further talk about Boyce Codd normal form.

Oh noez. This was AS Computing, or was it A2. Fuck if I know. I'm probably around 200-400% dumber since I've left Sixth Form and gone onto Uni.

hmm never heard of boyce codd or normal forms...YET anyway
and we are actually doing both but a simple one atm, just 6 tables linked in with reports and so forth using Microsoft Access, but yes i have to complete 2000 word essay on purpose, foreign keys, primary keys, getting rid of order forms if used etc etc
Thanks though ill take a look at what you suggested

i think its having multiple databases on a program such as Microsoft Access and being able to relate data between them in various ways.

edit: going with the odds...im most likely wrong

Do what reaper suggested. Look up Normalizations. Its a pretty basic concept that no sane person ever uses, anyone with half a brain develops a database straight into 3rd Normal form or greater.
