So I managed to break the stock CPU cooler, and I lost the S775 brackets for my old Zalman, so I need a new one.

The old Zalman (the big one that was "lying down") was too big for my mobo, due to heatisnks. I would mod it, but as stated, I lost the brackets.

So, I have learned:

1) Stock cooler is a fucking piece of crap
2) This new cooler cannot be any bigger that the stock cooler, diameter wise
3) this stuff is fucking expensive in Norway, so instead of giving a price, I'll say that it can't be more expensive than the 9700.
4) Alpha uses the 9700 on the exact same mobo

So, I was thinking about the Zalman 9700. Good Choice/is anything better?

ok, go to this link:

http://www.datakjeden.no/oslo/CBC.aspx? … is:1;stt:1

And check "vis bare lagervare" - that's what's in stock. I assume the 9700 is the best bet from that group`?

SCYTHE Ninja PLUS Rev B is better, and cheaper, but you have to get your own fan to attach to it.

edit: if it fits, that is.

I have a 120mm in my old PSU, but I don't think it'll fit tbh.

The CNPS9700 or GeminII, depending on case dimensions and layout. I've got a mate with a 9700, and it isn't exactly noiseless with the fan cranked up, that being what's required to keep up with the Gemin. The Gemin is also pretty small around the base, it's designed to go above tall heatsinks, rather than beside them. Even my XMS2 RAM with the huge heatspreaders pass underneath it.
The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

but on the other hand, do you need to use 100% fan speed on teh 9700? It is really quiet at low RPM and was able to handle 150w of heat.

Scythe Ninja is still the most effective apart from a TR 120 or a Tuniq Tower.

NOOOOO!

Fucking HORRIBLE cooler!

I bought one before my CNPS9500, and I returned it to Newegg within a week because it was a POS! Plus, there's no way in hell it would fit on that board.

https://www.legitreviews.com/images/reviews/370/k9aplatinum.jpg

This is my motherboard. The capacitors on the side of the socket were bent to an uneasy angle from the cooler, and I had to move my RAM over because it didn't clear the top (just normal RAM).

Plus, the fan that is included can only go one way, otherwise the blades hit the cooler. Not to mention they only include mounts for one fan, where you could fit more. A 120mm fan doesn't even fit properly on it. And, it says right on the box that it is not intended for high performance or overclocked CPU's, because the bottom will warp (and it has happened to many, read Newegg reviews).

Plus, it feels like it's made from recycled soda cans. It's junk. Don't buy it.

Scythe ninja is cheaper and better, but it doesn't fit your motherboard. I'd say go for an geminII or 9500/9700 like freezer said.

It is not better. At all. I've had both on the same chip/motherboard/overclock, and my CNPS9500 cooled much better. That, and, like I said - the Ninja box says it will be damaged from high heat.

As I seem to always say, Thermalright Ultra-120 Extreme as it is the best cooler on the market currently, it has it's down sides though, it may need lapping, some people have had rough base plates on theirs, mine have all been mirror shined but some people have had to lap the base to get a clean contact, you also might need to buy a fan for it, it cools as well as 9700 on low/med speed with no fan attached, I'd buy a silent 30-40CFM fan for it but, I think finding one in your area might be difficult. The Zalman 9700 is probably one of the next best, quite noisy though on full speed but the cooling is good.
