I can't seem to get my video camera working. I plugged it into the USB port and my computer doesn't read it. There isn't any software that the video camera came with either. Anyone know what to do? I tried googling for a driver, but nothing came up.
Did you turn on your camera?
Yea, but nothing ever happened.MetaL* wrote:

What camera is it?
Make/model does it record on DV tape or hard disk etc.
My Canon MVX250i can only transfer pictures over USB. To transfer video it needs to be connected over FireWire. I think every DV camera needs FireWire.

That sounds correct. Same with Panasonic.zeidmaan wrote:

I need around tree fiddy.
Yeah it really depends on what kind of camera you have. If it's anything but a harddrive camera, you generally need a firewire + a firewire port.
harddrive cameras generally run of USB.
As to how you get it off, you can use windows movie maker I believe to capture footage from a camera. I don't use it myself, I use adobe premiere for all my video editing, but I'd have to assume you don't have that.

FireWire is gay.
The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP
Even though the datarate is slower, tests have shown that it is faster than USB for streaming.Freezer7Pro wrote:

yep and data transfer rate is constant which is very important considering you are transferring from a tape.OrangeHound wrote:

So Reaper if you dont have firewire, and you probably dont, you need to buy a firewire card which you can get for 20ish euros probably.
It can use a tape and a memory stick.. It came with a USB cord, I got my computer to recognize the camera, but I don't know how to get videos transfered from the tape.
Post your camera type, but most likely you need a firewire.ThaReaper wrote:

Memory cards are usually for still pictures and maybe very low ress short videos - depending on the camera of course. Things from the memory cards can be transferred with USB. For things from the tape I am pretty sure you need firewire.ThaReaper wrote:

Just give us the make and model of your camera. If you don't know and don't have a box or manual, than look around on the camera.
The video camera is a dcr-trv460 ntsc
yeah, you need a firewire cable to transfer video from the tapeThaReaper wrote:
