Did search, dunno if it's old (OR FAKE ) but what the hell, it's a good one anyway

THE BEST PUT DOWN LINE EVER
For those that don't know him, Major General Peter Cosgrove is an "Australian treasure!"

https://img364.imageshack.us/img364/6301/generalefs7.png

General Cosgrove was interviewed on the radio recently.

You'll love his reply to the lady who interviewed him concerning guns and children. Regardless of how you feel about gun laws you gotta love this! This is one of the best comeback lines of all time. It is a portion of an ABC interview between a female broadcaster and General Cosgrove who was about to sponsor a Boy Scout Troop visiting his military headquarters.

FEMALE INTERVIEWER:
So, General Cosgrove, what things are you going to teach these young boys when they visit your base?

GENERAL COSGROVE:
We're going to teach them climbing, canoeing, archery and shooting.

FEMALE INTERVIEWER:
Shooting! That's a bit irresponsible, isn't it?

GENERAL COSGROVE:
I don't see why, they'll be properly supervised on the rifle range.

FEMALE INTERVIEWER:
Don't you admit that this is a terribly dangerous activity to be teaching children?

GENERAL COSGROVE:
I don't see how. We will be teaching them proper rifle discipline before they even touch a firearm.

FEMALE INTERVIEWER:
But you're equipping them to become violent killers.

GENERAL COSGROVE:
Well, Ma'am, you're equipped to be a prostitute, but you're not one, are you?

The radio went silent and the interview ended

I say, Salute!

I'm pretty sure it's a fake.  Certainly doesn't sound like him, and IIRC I've read the exact same story about an American Scout Troop leader.

Yeah, heard the story plenty of times before. And teaching children to shoot certainly wouldn't happen like that in Asutralia.

Yep, must be a cadet member or have a licence, which takes quite awhile as im trying to get mine now.

Doesn't sound like something he'd say either.

Yep, definitely fake.

Wish we were as awesome as that regarding gun laws

Tell me how that gun licensing goes cashlite.

well, i got a form from the shooting range down south somewhere.

however; im underage to technically OWN the gun, so my dad has to order it (so really its HIS gun). im starting on a .22, as automatics aren't allowed. but, once you have your license you can pretty much order anything. mate of mine is about to order a 'semi-auto' (wink wink) M4, but it was in a smith n western brochure, so i think its a knock off.

they say its easily moddable to put on full auto. did i mention hes killed about 30 kangaroos?

i went to the range and saw some old .303's in amazing condition, also an R700, which was amazing cause i didn't think it was legal down here.

we went to the pistol range...honestly, it turns out the guy who gave us a form was on speed. wierd bunch they were, always had their hands on their guns, like we were about to take it also, M1911's are legal here.

Yeah that's a fake story about Cosgrove but it is still a good yarn.

In regards to gun laws , you cannot own "anything" once you have your gun licence in Oz.  I got mine earlier this year and to get one you must be a member of a gun club or have a letter of permission from a property owner to shoot on the property.

There are different categories (rimfire, centre fire, semi-auto and collectors) of firearms and anything automatic is illegal.  Once you have a licence, which requires you to do a firearms safety course,  you must then apply for a "permit to acquire (PTA)" which takes 28 days to process for each weapon you want to buy and you must justify to the Police why you need it.   The Police will then come to your house and make sure you have a secure safe for storage before allowing you to get the gun, that takes an additional 28 days.  To have a pistol you must be in a pistol club unless you are a guide in a recognised hunting body.

It is also illegal to shoot kangaroos unless you are a professional shooter and even then you  are still limited to how many you can shoot.

All these rules are because of Martin Bryant and the Port Arthur massacre.............

Edit:  Check out www.usedguns.com.au for the most typical weapons you can get Down Under.
