I was wondering what I had to do if I would change my CPU.

Do I need a whole new motherboard, Ram, ... ?
And also I'd like to know if it would help me some more.
(I cannot download CPU-Z anymore?)

I now got an Intel Core 2 duo CPU 6300 @ 1.86GHz (2CPU's)
Edit; the CPU has to be for gaming.

Get an E7200. It'll give you much more performance for a low price.

The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. Take the old heatsink of the old cpu, remove the old cpu, insert new cpu into the mobo socket (assuming it is another cpu of the same socket type), add thermal paste/grease to new cpu, attach heatsink to new cpu.

About 100€. It will probably fit your mobo, but it's not guaranteed. What is your motherboard?

Ok, that board does not support 45nm CPUs, and thus, doesn't support the E7200.

I'd go for an E6600 from Alternate.be, they've got it for 149€.

Well most games dont even use more then 1 core so dual cores are alot better imo, altho a better mobo is a good idea aswell.

Well most games dont even use more then 1 core so dual cores are alot better imo, altho a better mobo is a good idea aswell.

Duals are usually better for gaming, as they're often higher clocked than quads, and most games only use one or two cores.

Also, that motherboard doesn't even support quads.

hmm btw... That CPU goes at least 2.8ghz with stock cooler and stock voltage. Why not just OC it?

And... q6600 at 3.33ghz is faster than C2D at 3.6ghz in modern games. The thing is, if you don't want to upgrade in two years, get the quad.

Try overclocking the 6300 to 2.13 or 2.40 Ghz.

...and it's an Intel stock board. They usually don't provide any overclocking utilities.
