BROOKLYN, Conn. (AP) — State police say a 16-year-old boy has been charged with attempted murder after he fired an assault rifle at people playing basketball behind a Brooklyn church.

State police say the teen shooter had an AK-47, but was subdued by the basketball players who rushed the gunman and wrestled him to the ground Tuesday night.

Police say the shooting occurred shortly after the teen argued with the young people playing on the basketball court behind Our Lady of Lasalette Church.

Troopers say the boy allegedly bragged about having an AK-47 rifle and returned 10 minutes later dressed in black and opened fire.

The teen is being held on $250,000 bond on several charges.

Only about 4 miles away from my house, less than a quarter a mile away from my dad's office.

So, how did this kid get an NFA weapon? After all, AK-47s have been banned from importation for 22 years, and restricted in the US since the day it was invented. It's impressive that a 16 year old kid could get one!

I love the media.. they say AK 47 as in the Russian Fully Auto death machine...

but what it really is, is the SKS.. the civilian NON fully automatic death machine, then again SKS isn't as scary as AK-47.

Surprisingly (well...maybe not), I have heard CNN report 4 makes of firearms across...oh...maybe 40 or so stories...
Cho used a Glock and a P22 (CNN got that right after a few days)
The guy at the Omaha mall used an SKS (which they got right after 2 days of reporting)
...everybody else uses a nondescript firearm ("assault-style rifle, or "high-capacity pistol) or an AK-47...at least in the minds of CNN...
