You're missing one important piece of the puzzle. It's not that people like OBL really care that much about the Palestinians. They just have an insatiable desire for conflict and death. The easiest way to get people to kill without remorse is to inflame current injustices. Israel and America are the perfect scapegoats for lunatics like Al Quida.rammunition wrote:

The problem is that we often do things that just make it that much easier for these terrorists to manipulate people through their anger.
Sorry, but Israel is not a scapegoat. Terrorists like OBL are deluded assholes, but don't put Israel in such place. Palestinians are the real scapegoats here. They are paying for a crime they didn't comit. And the likes of OBL and friends don't give a shit for them. Neither do moderate Muslims from other countries. So Palestinians are alone and pretty much fucked.Turquoise wrote:

Let me rephrase... BOTH Israel and Palestinians are scapegoats. The Israelis are scapegoats for anti-Semites, and the Palestinians are scapegoats for Zionists.sergeriver wrote:

Both Israel and the Palestinians do things to each other that only lead to more violence and hate between the West and the Islamic World. America has stirred the pot by invading Iraq, and Saudi Arabia and Iran stir up things by aiding the insurgencies in Iraq.
We all are to blame for different parts of the problem.
Let me tell you a secret, being a person with a Jewish last name, I've been called racist things many times. You just ignore those fuckers and you'll be ok. While Israel is a wealthy country, Palestinians live like shit oppressed by Israel, without the help of anyone, and you call both scapegoats?Turquoise wrote:

Being a scapegoat doesn't have to mean you are poor or oppressed. It just means you're a target used for political purposes. As I'm sure you know better than me, many Jews who died in the Holocaust were quite wealthy before the Nazies rose to power.
With Israel, the situation is obviously nowhere near as dire, and I do tend to be a lot more sympathetic to the Palestinians, but there's no doubt in my mind that Israel is thoroughly used as a scapegoat for groups like Al Quida and Hezbollah.

If by scapegoat you mean an excuse then yes. Al-Qaeda and Hezbollah and those shitty organizations have an agenda and they will use any means at hand to achieve their goals. If by scapegoat you mean those who are suffering then no.Turquoise wrote:

Agreed, for the most part. I'd still say Israel must suffer the issues of having extremists trying to blow them up, but their government is basically asking for it given their actions.sergeriver wrote:

It's definitely a sad thing to watch descendants of the oppressed become the oppressors, but it's happened before. Look at the history of Christianity. They started out as an obscure cult that was persecuted by Romans and many others, and when they rose to power, they oppressed several other cultures.
The Puritans fled to the New World to escape persecution in Europe only to begin persecuting the natives (and each other through witch trials).
So, I guess it's only human nature that these hypocrisies develop. I just hope Israel has another leader like Rabin. Peace was so close....
I totally agree with you there. Rabin was so close and that zionist fucker had to kill him. Extremists from both sides while millions live like shit. GG UN.Turquoise wrote:

Not much point in investing in Palestine when the Israelis are just going to bomb it to rubble. If he's so concerned about Palestinians, why doesn't his stupid rich family send help to Palestine, instead of blowing shit up?
Fuck Israel
