My friend put windows vista ultimate on his pc, and he has a nvidia 6800. He can barely boot into windows. We put 64bit on there and he has 4 gigs of memory so no problem there. I'm thinking that his card is not supported by vista which is causing horrible slowness when he boots up. He says he can barely use it. So what I'm thinking is if he has the right pci slot I would stick my 2nd 8800 gts 640mb card in there to see if everything runs right on it. Will that solve his problem ? I know it's his graphics card but I'm asking you guys for any advice that you may have to offer.

Edit: If you all need more specs I will post them later.

drivers? Safe mode? Specs? Everything stable?
once upon a midnight dreary, while i pron surfed, weak and weary, over many a strange and spurious site of ' hot  xxx galore'. While i clicked my fav'rite bookmark, suddenly there came a warning, and my heart was filled with mourning, mourning for my dear amour, " 'Tis not possible!", i muttered, " give me back my free hardcore!"..... quoth the server, 404.

We have all the drivers and stuff on there he has an Asus sli motherboard which is better than mine. He's coming over around 9pmish so i'll be able to get more information then

edit: I'm going to run 3dmark 06 on his box with his current card and then I'm going to run it with my card and compare the scores. I bet he'll be in the 6000 area with his current one.

lol, there's no way he's in the 6000 area with a 6800. Maybe 2000, 3000...

3000 max.

My 7600GT + X2 3600+ gets 3400 in XP SP2, so Vista and the better processor should balance out, leaving the weaker 6800 lowering the score to around 3000.

I have a 6800gt that I occasionally use, and it works perfectly with 32bit vista.

True. 6800 is right in between the 7600GS which gets around 2k6, and the GT, which gets around 3k4.
The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

What do you mean "He can barely boot into windows?"

You need to be much more specific with your post, exactly what is happening that is a problem? Exactly what mobo does he have? It doesn't matter if his mobo is better than yours, that is not how it works. Anything could be causing a problem, just because he has better hardware doesn't mean windows will work right.
