What's a good forum to go to to get help on things like this? I really hate reinstalling windows and now after all this time getting shit back together my computer is crap...

I just reinstalled windows and I can't get software updates like WMP  and MSN Messenger and that type of crap.
Anyone else having this problem? Not a firewall issue since it's turned off and not a Anti virus issue since I tried to download before I had it installed... When I add files to update it shows them being added to the download list but the file size always stay at 0 no matter how many files I add to my download list... and messenger will not install..
wtf is going on here??????/

Most my Windows updates I was able to get, now I can get any of them to install after the system check tell me what updates are available for my computer...

I never had this problem before.. Is this a known issue with SP3? I tried searching google and I can't find anything...

There are more SP3 versions. Mine doesn't give me any problems. Can't help you, sorry.

That's where I got mine from...
Before I reinstalled windows I updated my computer to SP3 and my modem wouldn't work, tried everything..
My computer recognized it as non working Ethernet... wtf, tried fixing it for about 4 hours then reinstalled windows..
Loaded windows and I was able to connect to the Internet right away. Now after getting the SP3 update, weird ass shit is going on.
Can't install new version of live messenger or get the windows updates... If I reinstalled again I'm afraid of a 3rd set of problems.
I never have problems like this with my computer.
My Comp is only 5 months old.

What happens if you click "Review and install updates"?
The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

I would say:
1) start -> run: %windir%              (you should be in c:\ windows now, you can also manually browse there)
2) Look for the SoftwareDistribution folder.
3) Rename it to SoftwareDistributionOld or something like that.
4) Reboot the computer and start windows updates again.
5) Should be fixed.

(remark: if you cannot rename the folder, you'll have to manually stop the automatic updates service in services.msc first, then rename it) (just stop it, it will be enabled again after the reboot)

Thanks for helping out, but it still doesn't work...
This is what I get when trying to download updates, I get the same thing on every update I try to get.

When I try to get live messenger and it fails, I click on the Reason part and it tells me to make sure i have enough disc space, firewall allowing access, and not running 64bit.???????? that's it!?

I guess I have to reinstall again! and see what happens...
Is there another place to get different SP3 downloads? Someone said there's more than one? I figured whatever Windows update showed me would have been fine, but looks what it's doing for me..

I have never had weired problems that other people had, I always had good luck and never any problems after a fresh install..until now...
