Be cautious,  if any of your semiautos ever malfunction, firing multiple round bursts, within earshot of cops, you can be prosecuted by the federal government.

Mr. Olofson has now been convicted of transfering a machine gun and sentenced to 30 months in prison.

This country is circling the drain.

Now this is something I support the NRA on.

I've never quite understood the ban on automatic weapons.  Any gunsmith can take a semiautomatic weapon and make it automatic, so what's the point of making automatic weapons illegal but not semiautomatic ones?

Legalize them all, because it's not like the law is gonna stop a criminal from getting an auto weapon if he really wants one.

...i mean...why would one really want to fire ones' weapon near ear shot of the police though. in this case the guy was unlucky

and to me personal ...i mean semi auto rifles are just as dangerous as auto if the bullet hits.

pathetic..."Omg his gun fire..2 bullets instead of 1"

On OP:  Agreed, crazy and ridiculous.

On Turq:  If the point of civilians carrying firearms is to defend themselves from criminals, why do they need anything over and above semi-autos?

Around here we shoot at the same ranges as the cops.

Semi auto is more deadly than auto anyways

As much as i disagree with gun ownership, this is ridiculous, you can't send someone to jail for some near impossible to detect malfunction.

I was thinking of getting my A-cat soon.  What would you guys recommend for a first firearm?  Has to be not full-auto (semi is okay), no pistol grip, no bayonet lug.  I'd eventually like to go deer hunting with it, though hunting smaller stuff might be okay also...something I can eat anyhow.

More accurate, a skilled marksman can shoot 10 bullets in the time it would take a full auto to shoot 15. Thing is, he doesn't have nearly as much subsequent-shot recoil, and he can recentre the sights each time if need be. Plus, semi also means that his ammo lasts longer, as there is less waste.
That's why the US military developed burst shooting on the M16--a compromise.

Many people who have SKS rifles have had accidental slam firing causing a burst in fire.  This is considered full auto by the ATF and would be prosecutable.  In fact, if you have a shady looking weapon (semi auto) and it is siezed upon, it's not unheard of for ATF agents (or other siezing police bodies) to do a battery of tests on the weapon to make sure it can't accidentally do a burst of fire rendering an automatic weapon charge to your charges.  Bright Spot pawn in southern california had just such an incident with a saiga rifle.  I've heard of some semi auto shotguns being made to fire automatically in the evidence room/locker testing area.  Juries will believe the atf testimony over the owner's.

However, there's absolutely NOTHING illegal about firing a semi-auto rifle EVER as fast as you can, or even bump firing one.  Have an M1A rifle with a legal high cap mag in it, put your thumb through the trigger guard and around your belt loop at your waste, and fire at 400RPM through that mag in ear shot of a cop, and you're fine!

here's an m1 garand shooting like a BAR!

Because, believe it or not, some criminals actually obtain auto weapons here.

It's not really that smart to use full-auto, unless you are trying to supress someone or if you use short, controlled bursts...but it sure is fun at the range!

The logic of the gun control laws blocking fully automatic weapons was to prevent the criminals from getting that kind of weapon.  Obviously, that did not work, so why keep law abiding citizens from getting them?
