I agree bertster; same with "I could give two shits." That means you DO care. "I couldn't give two shits" means you DON'T care.

I'm not making any claims about Americans not writing English properly (apart from the obvious wrong spellings, but that's not your fault, it's how you were taught) . I have in fact stated that Americans writing on this site is of a roughly equal standard to any of the other native English speakers. The one thing I have pointed out is a stupid nonsensical phrase that Americans seem to use a lot, which I don't like because it doesn't make any sense.Poseidon wrote:

However, the typical standard of grammar from Americans on this site is no better. Unfortunately.
The thing that gets me is all the stupid mutilated sayings that make no sense whatsoever. Like "I could care less" - it's not "I could care less", it's "I couldn't care less", otherwise it makes no sense. That's just one example that I see all the time and it really pisses me off.
And for the record, I always say "I couldn't care less".
Generalizations ftl!
Pose you do have to admit that a lot of people (idk if they're all Americans, but I'm sure a fair few are) screw up sayings like "I couldn't care less."
Oh no, I know that...I'm just saying. I don't (and if I do it's because I'm saying something in a hurry), and a lot of other people don't as well.HurricaИe wrote:

I got it, just wanted to ram my point home some more.Poseidon wrote:

Good. Though it is typically an American linguistic trait. I've never heard anyone English that I've met use that phrase, yet I've heard lots of Americans use it. It's not a generalisation. I've just said some Americans do it and it annoys me.Poseidon wrote:

Anyway, on to more important subjects. Why'd Arnott change his name to SEREVENT? Is it a pun on SEREMAKER?
