Did you protest when little red riding hood was read to you?
No because it was never read to me.  My parents didn't read me silly bullshit, atleast, I can't remember them reading me silly bullshit fairy tales like that, and you're going away from the point.
With all due respect, if you don't want to read it, then don't. (I can't believe I'm defending Christianity here, but at least I'm no hypocrite)
It's not hurting you, it's there for whoever wants to read it - and that "silly bullshit" means a lot to a large group of people. Don't insult other people's faiths.

Why? Why must faith be respected? Why have we automatically assumed that religion is something to be respected, and that any comments such as Morgan's are uncalled for?

Then, they must put a Torah, a Qu'ran and any religious books that exist.

Maybe they they just shouldn't put anything in the room. If a person is that religious to require a bible, Qu'ran, or whatever book they worship, then it would be logical that they just bring their own, and not rely on the hotel to provide it for them. This seems like the most logical response for this question.

To be honest, I think that the majority of bibles are put in hotel rooms by the Gideons in an attempt to spread the word of God, rather than so people can have a bible handy if they want to pray.

The proprietor's prerogative. It's a bit lame really - it would be like me kitting out a hotel of mine with the musings of Richard Dawkins, etc.

Perhaps I should start a religion that requires a large stone obelisk instead  of a book.

Lol.

About earlier comments, just to note, I'm neither agnostic or atheist, I'm something in between.  What's the greek word for "belief"?  I'd be a-whatever the word is.

Personally i don´t mind but there was allot fuzz about this a year ago in Sweden one of our larger Hotel concern withdraw their bibles from the hotels after a complaint from some atheist tard who found it offensive. Of course it´s still available but now you have to ask for it along with the Koran and other religious literature.

In some sense it´s stupid to have the bible but on the other hand it´s just a book what harm can it do i´m sure allot more people find it good than bad.

i think local churches ought to, but the hotel doesn't have to pay for it. Besides, I've never even read one of those except to show my christian friend he is not following scripture for eating an animal of cloven hoof yet does not chew the cud (pig.)

Many of you must have noticed the bible in a lot of hotels bedside tables.  How the fuck do they know that I'm a Christian?  I mean I could be an Atheist, a Jew, a Muslim, etc.  I admit I read the bible a few times in hotel rooms, pretty boring tbh.  Anyway I don't think they should provide the bible if you don't ask for one.  What do you think?  Should hotels provide a bible in the bedside table?
I've stayed in hotels that provide a bedside copy of the Qu'ran. Didn't care one way or the other.

If you don't want to read it, don't. That's what I do when I'm in a hotel.

If they want to shell out $20 a room on a bible, let them.

Some anti-religion people really take it too far.  Don't like it, don't read it.

This is a fair question.  I think Pat Condell has addressed this well before.  Still, it's not respecting religion that bothers me.  Tax exemptions for religious institutions bother me, because they have the effect of subsidizing religion.  I think that's a much greater issue to address.

Respect is ok with me, since it doesn't come out of my wallet.

if they had a book about being an angry bitter atheist in a hotel i was staying in it wouldn't bother me in the least...lol
I was in Vegas a couple of weeks ago... evil ads for pizza and music concerts and entertainment offerings were forced upon me on the desk next to the tv in the hotel... it was awful...                                peace
