Recently they came out with a new study that says low sodium is not good also. Wth! stick with one thing.

Contrary to long-held assumptions, high-salt diets may not increase the risk of death, according to investigators from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine of Yeshiva University. They reached their conclusion after examining dietary intake among a nationally representative sample of adults in the U.S. The Einstein researchers actually observed a significantly increased risk of death from cardiovascular disease (CVD) associated with lower sodium diets. They report their findings in the advance online edition of the Journal of General Internal Medicine.

The sample of approximately 8,700 represented American adults who were over 30 years of age at the time of the baseline survey (1988-1994) and were not on a special low-salt diet. After adjusting for known CVD risk factors, such as smoking, diabetes and blood pressure, the one-fourth of the sample who reported consuming the lowest amount of sodium were found to be 80% more likely to die from CVD compared to the one-fourth of the sample consuming the highest level of sodium. The risk for death from any cause appeared 24% greater for those consuming lower salt, but this latter difference was not quite large enough to dismiss the role of chance.

My sister eats salt plain. It's nasty. Like, whenever she goes into the kitchen, she eats a pinch of salt.

i'm pretty sure i know what the problem is. the people who most commonly cut their sodium at this point in time are those who have the biggest family histories of heart attack and whatnot. therefore, genetically, they're the ones most likely to get CVD, salt intake high or not.

of course, thats all speculation and i have no data to back that up whatsoever.

One of the weirdest diets I've ever heard of. lol Tell her scientists just found out salt makes you fat, and she'll stop pretty quickly.

People like to be told by "smart scientists" what to think.

That's overkill, but I do think that anything (ANYTHING) tastes better with salt on it.

When it comes to nutrition, scientists always flip-flops because their study is based on a best guess, then you have other studies which might be funded by a corporate sponsor. I like how dark chocolate is promoted to have anti-oxidant properties, even if the benefits are miniscule.

Sodium is a vital component of ion transfer in your nervous system.  no salt, and you die.

Sodium is also highly reactive and dangerously hygroscopic, too much sodium, and you die of dehydration.
