The Tampa Bay Rays changed their name this year from Devil Rays because they didn't want to offend anyone's religion. Now that is lame.
Funny thing that. I was reading some supernatural/loonybin/"ancient civilisation had nukes etc.." site the other day. They had all sorts of shit. And this came across.oChaos.Haze wrote:
I agree somewhat. The Redskins need to change their name though. That has to be one of the most racist, in your face, you are a joke to us, kind of thing.
You even prove it in your justification. You say that none of the offended are even Indians.
OK FOR THE LAST TIME BECAUSE I AM SICK OF IT. THERE NEVER WERE INDIANS IN THE UNITED STATES. COLUMBUS WAS AN IDIOT AND THOUGHT HE WAS IN INDIA.
Please let's not continue his idiocy...
I am Native American, and yes I am offended by the name.
Here's a giant list of weird theories/archaeological finds where I saw it

Though the server still remains in America... But I'm sure the fact that the owner of the site is in Europe changes something.

Wow, finally something intelligent and right from Mitch.
Keep up the good work.

So wait? How the Washington Bullets an offensive name? They could be fast, for all we know. It's not like the name Wizards won't offend the Harry Potter wierdos.
IDK when they changed their name, but DC was the murder capital of the US in the 90s...DesertFox- wrote:

Anyways I try not to get uppity when people make fun of Canadians or Hispanics (being that I'm part Canuck part Hispanic). If people need to feel superior by insulting my ethnicity etc, then I'm just better. If it's just a harmless name (e.g. Washington Redskins in this case, or hypothetically speaking idk.. the Miami Wetbacks) I don't get super angry. Life's too short to get up in arms over these things.
LOL DOUBLE STANDARD LOL k?

Out of POTENTIAL offensiveness. Fuck that... I'd be honored to have a fish named after me.
There is a highschool in Oklahoma called the Union Red Skins.
The state is not that old, only a hundred years, during that time, never had a huge problem until a couple of years ago.
The mascot is a person depicting an American Indian but not in a way that the American Indians liked.
Forced to pull the mascot from any sports events for a while.
People are just not tolerant anymore, waiting over half a century bring it up was kind of odd.

I used to say "Merry Christmas" regardless of the who the hell you were. My management never corrected me.-=]NS[=-Eagle wrote:

Ok, funny story to share. So today is Christmas eve, and i got suckered into working this morning. As some of you know, from previous posts, I work at Quiznos, but that's fairly beside the point. Anyways, it was just me and my manager today. He was ringing up some lady while I was wrapping her sandwhich and as he finishes up with her, he says "Happy Holidays". She stops dead in her tracks, turns and looks at him and says, (something along the lines of) "You know what? That just offended me. I'm sick of people being politically correct and wishing me happy goddamn (<-- she said that to my manager! ) holidays" So my manager apologises and tells her that we're supposed to be politically correct to customers and whatnot.
I honestly cannot stand this political correct bullshit. I really dont care if you are offended, I am actually offended by your offense.
Actually, you can't really use the "wetback" term in Florida. Wetback refers to Mexicans. Cubans, on the other hand ... hmm ... not sure I've ever heard one for Cubans. Commie Wetbacks? I don't know.HurricaИe wrote:

I find the whole issue of political correctness to be a complete and total piece of crap. I rather enjoy watching House of Commons debates, because they aren't always the most PC. Funny, though, because the UK puts out so many PC laws that it's ridiculous. It's amazing. I'm glad that the rest of Europe couldn't give a flying flip. At least, not here in Austria or Germany (that I've seen). I mean, FFS, one of the political parties had a poster here in Vienna: Wien darf nicht Istanbul werden. That translates to: Vienna is not allowed to become Istanbul. AND NO ONE FORCED THEM TO TAKE IT DOWN!!!
Actually, in Britain, schools have to allow other forms of English in regards to spelling and grammer.OrangeHound wrote:

e.g.
Colour (spelt correctly)
Color (spelt incorrectly, but has to be recognised within English language)
America also recognises U.K. spelling of words as correct.
So technically, your are both using correct punctuation in both countries. It's just one is more recognised as "proper" in either country.
Agreed*.Tehremos wrote:
