I need to get a clip of (legally) ripped DVDs for a school project, for some reason when I open up the movie clips Vegas doesn't see any video, only the audio. WMM picks it up just fine, but Vegas is a lot easier to work with.

Anyone know why?

edit: scratch that, I can't see video even on projects that I created and rendered in Vegas.

Import it in WMM, render to uncompressed avi. Then see if that render will work in Vegas

edit: scratch that, I didn't realize there aren't that many render format choices in WMM

This is weird. I can get a random fraps file to import fine, but it's like it's taking just the audio from anything with an audio part in it. Like it's in audio creation mode or something.

Do you need a codec to open the video in Vegas? What file type is the video? ISO, BIN, VOB?

Okay, it looks like I can't open anything that has been compressed. My smaller game videos that haven't been compressed I can open both fine, the larger one (that I edited in Vegas before my last reformat) the video doesn't show up. Of course the video doesn't show up on movies.

Use Premier instead.

Did that solve your problem? If so, give yourself +1

Those actually didn't, but then I remembered I never installed KLite since my last reformat. That fixed it.

My advice:
You are fucked Try more codecs: http://www.cccp-project.net/

These two posters had the same error message and fixed it:

Looking into what you just said now.

I've pretty much narrowed it down to Xvid. A movie that I could open normally was only encoded in DivX, and all the ripped movies I can't open are Xvid. The movie I had rendered myself in Vegas I also used an Xvid compression on and now I can't open it. I have Xvid installed, tried reinstalling countless times, but it still seems Vegas can't find it.

Bit of an interesting update, it seems that most all video editors have serious problems with heavily compressed files, such as Xvid stuff. Therefore I am about to attempt to simultaneously render 9 movies to uncompressed AVI while I'm asleep on an e6750 @ stock with 2.75 gb of recognized RAM.

I am about to make my computer cry. Please keep it in your prayers. Assuming my processor is not slag and Windows holds up exceptionally well I will let everyone know how it went.

SuperPi psh, this is what I call a stress test
