Ok, so I'm installing a HR-03 Plus on my 8800GTX tomorrow, now, I need to remove the existing thermal paste on my GPU, vram, HSI, etc.
Now, the problem is, I'll have to use stuff that we already own in the house to do this, sadly, I don't have any money after I buy the HR-03

I need some pro-tips on removing thermal paste with household stuff

I read that WD-40 is a good solution, and I even though about using some of my sister's make-up remover , any other ideas?

Rubbing alcohol and a lint free cloth or coffee filter.

Don't have rubbing alcohol.

Already decided to use a coffee filter, or q-tips.

How do you not have rubbing alcohol? It's a basic household item. Buy one bottle and it lasts for years.

I'm sure we have it somewhere here, but I scanned the house earlier today and I couldn't find any...

I'll look more closely tomorrow though.

edit: Found some, but there's just af few drops left in the bottle, dunno if it will be enough.

As long as there's enough to douse a coffee filter a little bit, it's fine.

You don't even need the rubbing alcohol really, as long as it's the same kind of thermal paste. Just wipe it real clean with a coffee filter, but to be extra clean you want the rubbing alcohol or a thermal grease cleaning solvent.

Coffee filters, q-tips, and high-purity isopropyl alcohol. I've got a bottle of 91% isopropyl that I use for cleaning paste off my cpus.

You're not supposed to dump the bottle on it. Just fold up a coffee filter and put it over the top, dump it upside down a few times, then wipe the thermal grease off.

Simple.

lol, you're doing something wrong. Like, using way too much grease.

On the 8800GTX there are thermal strips on the memory which peel right off and the thermal paste on the GPU easily comes off. I didn't even have to use rubbing alcohol.

Really? I've heard that it's a fuss to clean the vram on it.

Anyway, we'll see how it goes, I'm the HR-03 in 2-3 hours
