As far as I understand, my HDD is failing when it's requested to do something more than check emails.

I've had problems loading BF2 maps past 15%, being sent to desktop with no error message. I've been told my HDD could be failing, is there any way to check this?

I've reformatted 3 times and tried, every time I get the same list of events. BF2 will work for a few minutes, I'll get a BSOD and then my computer will restart, after that I fail to load a BF2 map at all.

from a command prompt, type:

chkdsk /r

the system will reboot and run a scan of the hard drive.  it generates a log file (i think it just puts it on "c:") open this file, and if you notice there are several sector read errors, you might want to back up your data and start looking for a new drive.

also, do you catch the error message on the BSOD?  it might just be something as simple as a driver problem, not a hardware issue...

It was huge, but something like IQRU_IS_NOT_EQUAL

I've ran chkdsk about 3 times, every time I get a lot of errors that are fixed, every time I reformat the same errors appear, even on the smaller 3 stage check.

I think I will just buy a new HDD tomorrow.

IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL?

That's rarely HDD-related. Usually RAM or CPU.
The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

What does it mean? And yes it was exactly that.

Update

Checked temps after BF2 rebooted my computer:

CPU 25C
MB 17C

Right now I'm going to run UT3 to see if it's a problem with my hardware or if BF2 is the problem.

IRQ lines are reserved for specific system devices.  if two devices try to use the same line, you get a BSOD.  in winXP and later, however, IRQ "sharing" became available.  this, of course, means there is a greater chance of errors since it would be easier for two devices to use the same IRQ simultaneously.  it is most likely a driver issue.  check your event viewer for any system level errors.  it should give you some more information about the two devices that are conflicting, then you can try to update the drivers for those devices.

What are your specs?

And IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL,. Mostly bad RAM causes this, but it could be almost anything, ranging from bad drivers through corrupt BIOSes to CPU overheating - it could be almost anything.

When I got the IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL BSOD, it was being caused by drivers for my headset.  Uninstalling the drivers fixed the problem.

So if you've installed any new hardware and/or drivers recently, try uninstalling them.

1. Try hitachi drive fitness test - hopefully it will be compatible with your HDD (it doesn't support all, but most) - that will do a much better job of checking your HDD than chkdsk.

2. Try Memtest86 - that will check your RAM.

3. Try a Sandra Burn-in test - that will test your CPU (as well as everything else).

Maybe, but have you supplied a nice, (now that I've edited), clickable link for either Orthos or Prime95?

No.

You can download Orthos here, and Prime95 here.

If you use Prime95 make sure to run an instance for each core.

That's why you should just use Orthos, it automatically stresses all cores.
GC_PaNzerFIN

orthos doesn't automatically change the core affinities for each thread and only starts up two threads. The new prime95 sets the core affinities correctly and launches automatically the right number of threads.
