same here. I have never had a good nforce board.

I wouldnt even recommend upgrading a GFX card, motherboard or a CPU, if your PC is a POS that cant even run BF2 nicely, get a upgrade not costing more than 200,00, otherwise, wait for the new socket 1366 motherboards, Intel Nehalem and the GT280/48xx

BF2 won't run atall lol, some odd problem with it... but it don't matter I don't play it much anymore.

I know I don't really need an upgrade now, the thing is I have the money now, and it saves having to upgrade it later and by then I might not have the money.

You've been extremely unlikely. Did all of these boards come from the same place perhaps?

I know tons of people with 680i's that have never ever had a problem. The only problems I've ever heard from 680i's are when they first came out and had crappy BIOS/drivers, but that was fixed with updates.
Hmmm, well to be fair, a few of them where from the same place (scan I think), but these scenario's, spanned months and did come from other venders (overclockers and ebuyer).  And like you said, I know probably three times as many people who havent had a problem as did, but, it still stands that a much higher percentage seem to go wrong, and, stability is a concern.  You only need to skim the recent posts in tech sections and see people with nforce related problems even if it is just a bios problem.

So stow it away, sell your old stuff on eBay and buy new parts, GT260 coming out next month and nehalem wont wait much longer either, might be in autumn.

Hmm, so what do us think? I suppose I could stash some money for the future and wait for a better board to come out, maybe one that is more reliable? From your post Bell, those odds don't look good to me to warrant buying this, I hate defective hardware -.- even though the odds may be less for getting a bad one.

Ok Ill stick with what I have for now, karma to you people thanks.

My friend recently brought an ASUS striker formula 2 (780i), and it gave him nothing but trouble, first of all it fried both his QX6850 and ram, leaving him with no PC for about 4 weeks (the amount of time it took to RMA) and even after RMA'ing it, couldn't watch videos thanks to a 780I video corruption bug.

A few days ago he brought an X38 mobo and hasn't had a single problem.

if you use that line of thinking you'll never buy anything.  there is always something new/better coming out.  if you need a new pc now look at what is currently available in your price range.

Usually, I would agree with you.  However, there are times in the year (usually two main occasions), when there is a significant hardware improvement on the horizon, that will either offer a better part (well obviously) and drive down the price of the current gear.  On the graphics front there is a LONG overdue improvement due mid june, anyone looking to buy new stuff would be well advised to sit and wait on that, if they can that is.

Ok imagine this":

GT280 is out and beats a pair 8800GT's in SLI
4870 is out and beats a 3870X2
He buys a socket 775 board, doesnt fit a Nehalem thus making it worthless spent money
Buy's a 775 board, doesnt support an amazingly good cooler because it only has 1366 support
He buys a Q9450, nice but a Nehalem will beat that
He buys a aftermarket cooler intending to overclock his CPU but placing it on a 1366 board isnt going to happen.

= FAIL TBH. waiting for nehalem might be wise.

Isnt that like 6 months away at best?  I read Q4 and that generally means last few weeks in december, and I mean, they released penryn then and we didnt start getting them in any half descent supply untill easter time(ish).

that's why I said might be wise. If there is any way you can wait fot GTX 2x0 and Nehlam... do it. unless you REALLY badly need one atm.

indeed wait for the l33t hardware. Maybe buy some cheap things to improve your current pc so you can hold out untill the new hardware comes out .

I'm not up to date on all this new stuff, what is it? and I can wait, if anyone see how long it would be till the stuff comes out let me know, but for how good these sound there price I suppose will be sky high?

I'm not denying the upcoming releases will be better, as well as most likely much more expensive.  My point is really the good hardware you can get now will still hold it's own for a while and if you need a pc now waiting for the new tech to either get it or price drops on current tech is not wise imo.  I could have waited to by my current system until now and probably save a few hundred dollars but that's just the way tech goes.  It really depends on $$$$  if you can by the latest and greatest then wait, if not just by what you can now.
