If you remember back a little while ago, it essentially amounted to the soldiers being returned after Blair basically kissed some ass about possibly being in Iranian waters. To top things off, many of the soldiers basically spouted off a few things as propaganda for the Iranians, and they've apparently gotten a book deal out of the experience.sergeriver wrote:

- Tony Blair's plane almost shot down by Israeli jets
My country was fighting Islam 1000 years ago. We're in Iraq, Afghanistan and were in all the others before. We might appear to cater to them because any threat my be seen as colonialism. Like how the Germans have to tip toe around entering wars.Turquoise wrote:

Played.
Granted, America has the opposite problem. We've got balls, but we often lack brains.
friendly fire ftl

I remember that Blair avoided a major international disaster and got the soldiers back home without shooting one bullet. Wars don't solve everything. Sometimes you must rely on diplomacy.Turquoise wrote:

All very true... But what I mean is mostly in reference to certain things being done to cater to the unreasonable demands of a few extremist Muslims. Pat Condell first peaked my interest in this, and I decided to research some of the things he's mentioned in his videos.jord wrote:

For example, it seems odd to allow an influx of money into the U.K. from Saudi Arabia for the sake of building mosques that often preach Wahhabism. Even the Green Lane Mosque has a Wahhabist presence.
Agree with this tbh. The best possible outcome was to get the soldiers back home safe without sparking a war.sergeriver wrote:

That's all true, but.... diplomacy shouldn't involve giving your aggressor the satisfaction of furthering propaganda. Granted, I realize much of that was the fault of how the soldiers reacted.sergeriver wrote:

Pat Condell is an asshole Islamophobe and racist prick.Turquoise wrote:

You're not the first to say that, but I think he's great. He says a lot of things few have the balls to.sergeriver wrote:

*Some Hebrew babble*, *explosion*, *news report*, *cheers*.
I would have punished the tkers if i was blair.
But anyway, its understandable that the fighters were scrambled if they didn't make radio contact with the Israeli air traffic control.

He speaks some things that are indeed the truth about Islam. But the way he says such things makes him a prick.Turquoise wrote:

I think it's sometimes necessary to be a prick when dealing with aggressive people. For example, Wahhabists often have this superiority complex that is best countered by getting in their face and calling them out for the hateful anti-everything other than themselves people they are.
Why act like the people you don't like? I mean he doesn't speak about Wahhabists only, he speaks about Islam. The Wahhabists are a radical minority, and they don't represent all Muslims. And that's where Condell's wrong.Turquoise wrote:

Perhaps, but he's also testing all of Islam's ability to deal with free speech. Getting offended is one thing, but damaging property or killing others over it is another. If anything, more Europeans should stand up and criticize Islam for its various flaws and even commit blasphemy so that Muslims can get used to being offended like the rest of us are.sergeriver wrote:

The point is... free speech is more important than any religion. It's more important than not offending some overly sensitive group. It must be supported even when threatened with terrorism. To me, Condell is a small but important part of that. He provides an outlet for people that feel what he does from the hypocrisy they see around them. This is a good thing -- it's certainly better than taking out your aggressions the way that a lot of Muslims choose to.
Free Speech > Religion. Agreed. However, Condell is a prick, coz while he is right about these things, he can't generalize about Islam, just because a bunch of assholes got offended. He tries to make people believe that Islam is a threat to Europe and he's wrong. Radical Islam is the threat to the World. Besides, I can't stand his voice and the way he talks, so self-confident and arrogant.Turquoise wrote:

Balls?? Talking into a camcorder, alone, in a obscure room, in some house, anywhere in the UK? That isn't balls. Balls in standing in the middle of Trafalgar Square spouting his bullshit and it prob wont be a Muslim that knocks his ass to the ground.Turquoise wrote:

Fact is he's a comedian and his 'artistic license' permits him to say what wants as part of his act. Just don't take it serious and proclaim him your new god cos that certainly isn't what his intention is.
Blackbelts are just whitebelts who have never quit.
It's funny that you use the word God here. I don't believe in any god, and I certainly don't want to deify any fellow human.m3thod wrote:

He's done entire shows of offensive work. These are shows open to the public, so if someone was interested in "knocking his ass to the ground," they would have done so already.
Still... I'll agree with you that it takes more balls to offend people on the street. This is why the Amazing Racist is hilarious...

But those poor Israelis, think how they've been persecuted.Do you guys imagine what would have happened if they shot down that plane with Blair in it? What a problem for the UK, despite what you Brits think of Blair.
They should be free to kill whoever they want.
Fuck Israel
lol how did this turn from blair to Pat Condell
So being cautious is a crime these days?Dilbert_X wrote:
