So check it, because my dad smashed my 1955 National across my dresser, he let me get a new one (long story)

anyway, I got a nice new guitar, and now I need to have a humidifier, I got one, and a humidity reader, but its just a sponge, and I have to keep 45% humidity, I live in Arizona, so a LOT of humidity wont be a problem, currently in the room im at 34%

Im getting distilled water tomorrow, but I mean the humidifier is just a sponge case, I still dont get how to keep it 40-50 percent humidity?

Tips would be great, karmaz for those tips btw...

and pics if you want

i had something like this for a while, it somehow uses a net-like wick to draw the moisture into air. It also had a digital humidity reader which showed the %, but you can buy one separately.
About the sponge...i think you were ripped off

btw, what kind of guitar?

and I mean, the only place I could put the guitar is my office, and in my office is my computer

and im thinking that 45% humidity wont be too great for my computer

Sounds like something one would not necessarily call expensive then. (usually expensive guiter+unpreparedness for its upkeep=you got an ESP because its japanese and thus you assumed its the best)

Anyways, i had one of them, didnt really do shit to our humidity.  Mind you it was usually 45 anyways, but i should have noticed something without being right next to it.  Get a cheap humidity reader that im sure you can find at any generic store for no more than 30 bucks, and try to find a room thats usually uninhabited to store it.  Seeing how its Arizona, 45 would be pretty unbearable.  (You could always use the im-sweating-my-fucking-ass-off-moreso-than-usual-so-it-must-be-adequate method.)

I wasnt really looking at brand names, I picked up this guitar and started playing sitting waiting wishing on it and played around with others for about an hour and came upon this

imo it was the best sounding in the room

and at (lets just say more than 1000$) that price its not a cheap guitar

I have a cheap humidity reader btw, says its 33% humidity at 81F

The room doesnt get that bad, stays about 80F all day, im not worried about it being too hot, im more worried about how 45% humidity would affect my computer

So why are you asking how to check the humidity?  Turn it up, wait at least 15 (excessive) 5 minutes, check the read, repeat until desired humidity is reached.  Just thought it'd be obvious to you.

Also, kinda paranoid on the computer effect.  If people in florida (they might have AC, but its still humid as fuck) can run it fine at 60+, and i have absolutely no problems with your desired level...you figure it out.

But seriously, if you lived all your life in 30 humidity, i guarantee you will sweat buckets at 40-50 (i was when i went for a weeklong trip to Ontario, and i still do, and it was barely pushing 60)

no. not even. the two are absolutely a different kind of heat. i'd take the dry heat though, seeing as i've lived in CA all my life (and thus i'm acclimated to it), but you'd take the wet heat seeing as you're used to that.

i spent some time in Indiana last summer, it was something like 90 degrees with 80% humidity. the heat wasn't bad and i was barely sweating, but i couldn't sleep worth shit (i was in dorms at purdue, no AC, no fan) because it was just absolutely unbearable.

being in different humidity just fucks with your body in ways i can't really explain.

I'm assuming you got one of the humidifiers that sits in the sound hole.  Is it Planet Waves?  It should have came with a syringe with ml markings on the side.  You use the syringe to inject water into the spongy humidifier.  Then place the humidifier in the sound hole.  Then look at the readout and if it's not enough add more, if it's too much, let the humidifier sit outside the guitar for a bit then try again.

Although not enough water in the air is just as if not more dangerous to guitars.  That's why if you have an acoustic inside during the winter, you definitely want to humidify.  So just keep in mind, dryness is dangerous too...

Yes, it is planetwaves and there isnt a syringe...   Im wondering now if a humidifier in my office (where the guitar is kept) would be better?

Also, some humidity might do me good in this dryness...
