Hello all.

I am looking to get myself a dedicated server (win or linux is undecided at this point.  The box will be used to serve 10-15 websites, with the smallest site having about 2000uniques per day, and the busiest site will have about 12000 uniques.   If possible, I would like to run some game servers on it also (cs 1.6, CS:S).

Can anyone recommend a host that is not going to break the bank for a decent machine on a decent network.

Cheers.

It's not really the best of ideas to cram both services with contiunous loads and services with bursty loads onto a single machine. You need to be able to dimension and segment the hardware and services to suit the applications, and in general, you don't want multiple applications with different maintenance requirements on the same machine if you can avoid it. You can quickly end up in dependency and performance hell.

Mikkel, I understand what you are saying.  The gameservers are not a necessity, just something "extra" that I would have liked to offer to my users.  Not something that will be on the box come launch day, just somethign that may be added down the road once it is determined what kinda load is on the machine.

Now, can anyone recommend a provider?

Cheers.

Try and go with someone locally if you can.  It helps if you can have face time with your host in case issues arise.

That was my first thought ( go local), but there are not too many folks on the east coast of canada that either colo or rent dedicated servers at a decent price....
