The ban on private alcohol distilling coincided with...you guessed it; millions of automobiles being sold.
Henry Ford built his car during a time when there were no gas stations. Part of his vision included people producing their own fuels.

Remember this?
Well, between completely redoing our backyard to allow for these four raised garden beds, and relocating my metal shop to a smaller building closer to home I've been way busy. But you know what? I am massively motivated to stop paying fuel tax and $4 + per gallon.
Last year when I visited Hawaii I observed massive C & H sugar plantations abandoned. Sugar canes now grow wild and unharvested. I was told that organized crime elements hired methed out natives to go into the sugar fields at night and poison the crops. C and H now grows their sugar elsewhere.
I wondered why organized crime would not want sugar growing. I think I understand now.

See that corn? Going mad. I intend to produce ethanol with it. If it is practical I shall convert the entire back slope to corn crops. I figure I can plant almost a thousand head.

I think it will not be long before commercial stills are available for purchase to home owners for producing ethanol, if they are not already.

Hey Bush, you fucking mental midget, First you say this.
Then you say that, and the price of oil jumped $20.00 per barrel within a week.

Why don't you do us all a favor and keep your miserable idiot mouth shut?

I look forward to the day when the Middle East runs out of oil, and we can let them all kill each other without giving a shit.

So you're going to start making your own fuel eh? Have you actually thought it properly through? I'm just saying like, you wouldn't want to spend all that money on converting your car and shit. Only for it all to go pear shaped.

Good luck to you, I actually really hope it all works out. Fuck man, if you end up not having to ever fill up from those Petrol Stations. That would be so awesome.

Why wait?

Do like me and start working towards personal independence. Waiting for the government to show leadership may mean seeing this as you look out your wind shield;

does the government not tax you on the fuel you produce? They do in the UK.

I didn't know that. That's pretty fucked up. They tax you for growing something in your own garden, what next.

ATG, keep us updated on this pl0x - I want to see how it works out for you

Why not get a diesel (Honda is coming out with a 55MPG diesel accord this year) and then collect cooking oil from restaurants. The restaurants have to pay to dispose of their used cooking oil, so they will gladly give it to you. With a small amount of processing (they sell kits online) you can convert the cooking oil to usable fuel that works in diesel engines with no trouble.

That's pretty damn cool, good luck to you. I don't think I caught why organized crime wanted to poison the sugar cane though, maybe I'm just being slow tonight...

The tax isn't so much on the petrol, but a tax for using the roads. They just put it on the petrol because it's easy and roughly estimates how much you use the roads.

Hey ATG. What you are doing is awesome. We grow some of our own veges on our small block. How much space would you need to grown enough corn to fuel your car??

Something similar to this was done on Top Gear, except they grew diesel.

They then go on to race the car. I wont post the links for that as it is off topic. Search Youtube under topgear and biodiesel if you are interested.

ATG, how much land do you have?  One of my goals in life is to eventually become close to self-sufficient.  I'm kind of a paranoid survivalist.

Most people don't have the time/resources to become self-sufficient, at least without a major lifestyle change.  I am a proponent of learning the skills required to be more self-reliant, and keeping some stuff on hand (i.e. enough to get through a pretty major disaster).  There may be no oil disaster in the next year or two, but you don't know when the next storm, fire, flood, earthquake, etc. will hit.

I installed a drip system and realized in the process my plumbing is shot.  A drip system uses up to 70% less water than sprinklers and is easily automated.

Our issue right now is soil. The first bed was planted with Supersoil, the second 50-50 bulk and Supersoil.
The last two beds were bulk soil from the nursery and the plants there act like I'm growing in a bed of salt.

We are figuring out how to deal with bugs.
This gave me an idea about the corn.

I trust you'll be growing corn in-between cannabis, not the other way round?
