Downloaded a game(its not sold anymore)and when I got to extract the files, I get the message "This application failed to start because System.dll was not found. Reinstalling the application may fix this problem."

Im trying to install Medal of Honor Allied Assault, it came out in 2001. Im using vista, is the problem Vista and the game is unable to run on it? I find this hard to believe though as Half Life runs on Vista and its 3 years older.

Anyways, help is greatly appreciated, I'll try to do my best to understand the answers.

I have MOHAA on CD and it runs fine on Vista x64, so that's not the problem.  You get that error when you unpack the image file?  Or when you try to install it?

It could also be a bad release.  Try to download scene releases by reputable groups opposed to something a random person just zipped up and threw on the net.

Well, let me try to explain this the best I can. It was downloaded into 4 main parts:

CD1:This one wants to know which program I wish to use to open this. Its actually a folder with 2 files in it, a CUE and a BIN file.

CD2:Same as CD1

Medal_of_Honor_NOCD.ace     This file need to be extracted with WinRar, this one gives me the message about System86. When I open it with WinRar(it is not extracted though) it appears to have 2 parts, one, called MOHAA which is a .exe file, and another called Fairlight which is a .nfo file.

Medal of Honor-Crack.exe       Same message about System 86. This seems to be a single file, does not need to be extracted.

The large files(which seem to house the game) are the CD ones.

ALSO!!! I got the quote wrong in my first post. It is System86.dll not System.dll

Well you'll need to download Daemon Tools in order to mount the .cue file and install the game.

You need either a cracked .exe or a mini image to run the game after it's installed.  Since the crack you downloaded won't extract, try a mini image.
http://m0001.gamecopyworld.com/games/pc … onor.shtml  (download the "fixed image" one)

After installing the game, mount the "fixed image" with daemon tools and then you should be able to play.

Ok Ill work on that, I dont know files too well(I only know that .exe is executable and should open a install program). I'll probable be coming back with questions.

What is the Fixed Image thing you are talking about?

Also, Im trying to use the DAEMON tools to open the CUE file in CD1, its giving me the message "error in command line". Now am I doing something wrong, am I supposed to do something before this? Sorry, I really dont have a clue how to do this stuff, never done it before.

Worry about installing the game before you get to the fixed image - you won't need it until later.

You should be able to use daemon tools to mount the .cue file to a virtual drive.  Then the game menu should come up with option like Play, Install, etc.  If you get an error when trying to mount the .cue file, I'm thinking the file must be corrupted or bad somehow.  But that's never happened to me, and Fairlight is a respectable group...

Nothing you can do if the image file is corrupted though, except find a different release.

I dont see a Fixed Image thing on that page(it seems to say there isnt on there). So I checked the other links, I downloaded pretty much everyone at GameFix and every single one gave me the same message about System86.dll

How do you do this? Im sorry, Im 100% clueless. Is there any place that would give a guide for retards or anything? Like how do I use daemon tools to mount the .cue file to a virtual drive, whats a virtual drive, etc.

1.  Install and run daemon tools.
2.  You should see a lightning bolt icon on your taskbar.  Right click it, go to emulation, and choose "All options ON"
3.  Now left click the lightning bolt icon.  It should say something like Device 0: Empty.  Click on device 0.
4.  A file browser should now have opened up.  Find the .cue file for CD 1 and double click it.
5.  If the game menu does not come up, go to My Computer, right click on the virtual drive that you just created with daemon tools, and choose autorun/autoplay/install or run program (depends what OS you have).

Follow the steps i put in my post to mount CD 2.  Then click OK on the installer.

I'm not sure if you know what it means to "mount", but it's the the same thing as putting a CD into a CD drive.  Except it's all virtual - you're putting a CD IMAGE into a VIRTUAL CD drive.  You get the same result as if you put a real cd in a real drive though.

Ok, thats what I was trying, I just dont know what file to mount. There isnt one labeled CD2 or anything here, in the new file, which has been working so far. Im trying data2 but that doesnt work. Keep getting "cant find specified file or disc" box.

EDIT: Holy shit it worked. I love you.

EDIT2: Now to play the game it needs the "correct CD in the drive". I guess I need that fixed image stuff now.\

EDIT3: There seems to be a crack file along with it, called MOHAA.exe. I clicked on this figuring it would start the game, it did, then a dialog box came up that said "Couldn't load default .cfg" at the bottom.

Download the fixed image, mount it, play the game!

If you're blind and still think there's no fixed image on that page hit CTRL + F and search for it.  You have to click the floppy disk icon.

If you want to use the exe crack, put the mohaa.exe in the MOHAA main directory, overwriting the original exe.  Then run it.

You can do it either way, fixed image or exe crack.
