You forgot that the Euro is 1.4 times stronger than the $ and the British pound is twice the amount so technically they pay only a little more than what we do.

Yeah, but I'd say when you take into account average wages and shit (such as, we drive less because everything is more dense), it's sort of balanced out. And the fact that compared to the U.S, we have (well, at least London) has a pretty decent public transport system.

Of course, it's still quite high. Today in central London there is a massive protest being done by lorry drivers. And at the end of the day, you guys still have it quite cheaper I guess.

Eh. Do what the Swiss or English do. Get a decent public transport system and stop complaining. I live in England, so fuck you guys. I pay double anything you pay.

I agree with blaming environmental organizations, but not about drilling in Alaska. Blame them for halting any progress in developing nuclear energy.

Also, someone mentioned "get a better public transportation system". America is a sprawled out country with many suburbs. It's impossible to eliminate cars altogether unless you live in the city. Granted, there will be a shift away from suburbs and back to living in the city, there's still millions of people who always have and always will commute because of where they live. Once the demand for a better public transportation system grows (which it is), then the system will begin to improve (which it is).

Today at the gas station we saw a down and out looking one-eyed fellow.  He was sitting on a curb around the gas station, holding an empty gas can.  He had a truck full of scrap metal, and we imagined he needed gas money in order to take the stuff to a scrap yard and make money to live off of.  We felt bad so we gave him around a total of ten bucks or so.  He bought gas - we saw him buy gas, he didn't use it for alcohol or anything.  The gas station didn't sell alcahol - it wasn't a mini-mart thing.

Anyways, it made me realize that gas is getting expensive to the point where some people can't survive.  Here, it's like 4 dollars a gallon.  It's the oil companies who do this.  It has nothing to do with the scarcity of oil.  In general, the oil companies need to be regulated.  If it gets up to say, ten dollars a gallon, nobody can work.

Discuss.
I don't see how it's the oil company's fault.  They're making about a 7% margin on their product.

blame katrina, blame oil companies, but don't blame our own greed. We bought RIDICULOUS cars, we bought ridiculous houses, we bought more than we needed and now that the cost increased we are overextended. Yes gas prices suck, but not by so much that we can't pay unless we are overextending ourselves in nearly ever facet of life.

It sucks. People going to have to sell their cars, move closer to work if possible.

Why don't Americans and Brits and everyone else just take over all the oil facilities? 300 million people could do it. If those OPEC fuckers wanna stop us, they'll have to kill every last one of us. And then they won't have anybody to buy their oils.
OPERATION: OILY DESTINY

or we could just put more funding into alternative fuel sources... surely if we spent as much on that as we spend on iraq we'd have told OPEC to fuck off a while back

Over $12 a gallon over here; taking 4 litres to one gallon and two dollars to one pound.

what? I must be confused. Are you taking into consideration exchange rates? Because last I was in Australia it wasn't 2 dollars per pound. In England maybe?

I think in the long run this will help the US and other nations to get off their addiction. There hasn't been a wake up call like this since the 1970's and one can hope we learn from it this time.

We must switch over to hydrogen powered cars (I know not over night) and for plastics, clothing ect we must use the oil in Alaska, parts of California and I hear North Dakota has some oil too. By doing all this we can give a big ol fuck you to Opec and the middle east.

Problem is, until they come out with an alternative power source to generate the hydrogen for the cars, you are still dependent on fossil fuels. Granted you could use coal power and not be dependent on OPEC but coal does not burn as cleanly as natural gas. Nuclear power would work as a clean alternative to generate the power to create the hydrogen, but there are no new nuclear plants being built yet. Kinda at a dead end, no?
