Even if cluster munitions are banned... it wont really change anything... and people will just develop similar weapons that dont fit into the exact category of cluster bombs etc

Even the 'super accurate only bad guy killing' bombs kill more civilians than soldiers... Don't know
I've always found the idea of rules of war a little strange...if they're going to have rules why not just have a game of chess instead?

On topic:
Cluster bombs are approved if 90% of the bomb lets explode, leaving 10% left unexploded.
use that kind of bomb near a village or city= guaranteed civilian casualties
Strange but good.Braddock wrote:

Good post. In the future we may be fighting wars with stuffed animals and long finger nails, lol.Commie Killer wrote:
But thats just the thing. Nothing is guaranteed to explode. Why dont we just ban everything else until only the other side has the weapons, and only the other side uses them. Seriously, like someone else said, wtf is this with humane war, what are you guys trying to do, make it easier to understand, to partake in? What happened to scaring the shit outta the other guy so bad that there isnt a war?Ataronchronon wrote:
I liked what IRONCHEF said about keeping war as nasty as possible, so that way people aren't inclined to resort to war so quickly.
However, the fact that the cluster bombs are killing people after the conflict is over makes me think it would be better to ban them. We can always use other weapons.
I think the point is that regular weapons with a 10-20% failure rate would be thrown in the bin, but in a cluster bomb that's not so much of an issue as there's loads of them. This leaves mass minefields of small, hard to find explosives that kill civillians for years to come. If you could replace a cluster bomb with one huge bomb that blew up an area the same size, that would be much better as the failure rate would likely be designed to be much lower and if it didn't go off it wouldn't be too hard to find and disarm it later, unlike large numbers of small bombs.SoC./Omega wrote:

You're probably right; but I just had to say that.PureFodder wrote:

So according to your standards, Israel isn't a nation with any degree of morality since they have used these bombs in Lebanon in the vicinity of civilian targets.KILLSWITCH wrote:
Cluster bombs aren't as indiscriminate as Chemical or Biological weapons, cluster weapons could still have a place in modern warfare. Against a large group of enemies or an enemy compound for example. Any nation with a degree of morality isn't going to use them if civilian targets are near.PureFodder wrote:
Why not do both. It's like arguing that there are still murderers so why bother to arrest theives.KILLSWITCH wrote:
Uh...what about Biological and Chemical weapons, there are still nations that have them? They make cluster bombs looks like an episode of the Teletubbies, and are completely unnecessary. Why not start there?
A large bomb is for taking out heavy targets, and is heavy, you can carry less on a plane... A cluster bomb is usually lighter meant for taking out infantry and lightly armored vehicles, a direct hit on the turret or engine compartment of a tank will neutralize it, problem is, we use the J-SOW for things like that.PureFodder wrote:

Please dont bring Israel into this topic as you will find many forum members disagree with Israel to the point of virtually, secretly, possibly unknowingly, wanting it annihilated.Pierre wrote:

It's official, the U.S. refuses to sign cluster-bomb ban supported by 92 nations.

Be proud my fellow americans, you just joined the rank of friendly nations who will not sign the ban such as Russia, China, Iran and good old and friendly israel.
May your respective lands be littered with these tiny bomblets.. May your childrens become victims of your precious toys as the childrens of Lebanon and Afghanistan are now and will be for years to come.
You could have give the good example by signing this treaty..
Maybe the messiah will change the decision once he'll be in the white house but i doubt it.

Mines are a scumbag weapon used by scumbags too... let's face it, most weapons, unless they're being used to repel people who are attempting to invade your country, are scumbag weapons.usmarine wrote:

no such thing as scumbag weapons.
what I don't like however is the fact that cluster bombs kill kids / people decades after the conflict, and people here trying to justify it.
fucks, go walk in one.

I say ban cluster bombs if not all the bombs detonate and become a killer of innocent children who pick them up thinking they are toys and such.
We got a hundred of ways to flush troops out so wtf. Obama will sign the accord and that is that.
