To OP:  I have never had any Crucial/Micron RAM go bad on me, so I would pick that.
whats the deal with Micron D9 anyway?  what makes it so much better than other chips?  i heard that it conks out at fairly high FSBs actually.  which i probably will not like, considering the stupid 7.5x multiplier the Q9300 has.

and how do i know a stick of RAM has Micron D9 chips?

The  OC better and are more reliable-they don't die as often.

What kind of Dell you running?  I'm running an OptiPlex 745 [Mini-Tower], basically have the same RAM setup a you do.  4 slots - 1GB support in each. (MAX 4GB...which is very good for Vista, and outstanding for XP)
...I want to build my own system.

I'm thinking of picking up as few of the Corsair ValueSelect sticks...$20 per GB is decent, I'll take it. (I can't run 800mhz memory, highest is 633. )

This one is an OptiPlex GX280.  It's the big fat server case type.
