Ok, it's a tad complicated.
1. I have a LITE-ON SHM-165H6S DVD-RAM drive. It works fine for reading CDs and DVDs.
2. I need to record onto some Memorex DVD+RW discs

3. It doesn't work. When I put the DVD+RW in, the drive in <My Computer> becomes a CD drive. ????
4. I try recording some RAR files, says that it can't.
Error message: "Windows encountered a problem while copying this file".

Help is greatly appreciated.

Try using a program such as InfraRecroder to make whatever you want to put on the DVD into an .iso file, then use ImgBurn to write the .iso to the DVD.

All right. It's at 16% erasing the first disc. How long should it take?

Erasing the first disc?  What?

A whole DVD infrastructure (full DVD) usually takes around 10 minutes to make into an .iso file for me, and 20 to burn.

I've got it as a RAR; do I NEED to make an .iso of that?

You're doing this with read write discs (+RW) which are not like DVD+-R discs.  RW are like a huge floppy drive, lots of room but very slow.  Given the price of +R discs it is better to just burn direct to DVD and not use the read write discs at all.

Any drive that can read RW can read a normal +-R disc so RW really is a waste... unless you need to delete some files from the disc and leave the rest.

You can't delete from a multisession CDR or DVD+-R disc, you can only add more data.  Only a properly formatted RW disc can delete data after it has been written to.

I likes. I got it figured tho. IMGBURN ftw! Takes about 20 minutes for a whole infrastructure. It's great.

Yes and no. You can't physically delete the file as its only R, but you can append to not read that part of the file table.
