I've been looking around for DVD playing software for my laptop.  I was just wondering you think is the best out there.  I had PowerDVD ages ago but I don't know if it's great or not.

Cheers.

That's what I have been using recently but for some reason it doesn't want to play random DVD's.  Some error pops up, can't recall what it is at the moment.

Update drivers and get latest versions of all codecs.

Just checked the error and this is what I get:
Windows Media Player cannot play DVD video. You might need to adjust your Windows display settings. Open display settings in Control Panel, and then try lowering your screen resolution and color quality settings.

I lowered the resolution and quality but I still get the same error.

I use PowerDVD Ultra... it does the job.  Plays high def and is easy to use with DVD menus.

XP doesn't know how to play DVDs because Microsoft would have to had paid a shitton of royalty fees. Vista, I guess the DVD royalty got cheaper.

Installing a DVD player usually installs the 'codec' to play DVDs, which allows WMP to play it.

I've used VLC, but it keeps resorting to Dutch or German or something no matter what Audio stream you set it to. You have to piss around with it a lot. One thing I love about it, is those no-faggot-you-have-to-sit-through-all-this-shit screens don't appear. We have a DVD which gives us the legalese in every country, and another which has an unskippable 10 minute trailer.

Commercially, I've found PowerDVD has been the best product.
