AMD holds another advantage that is GeForce GTX 280 is going to be released soon, so Radeon HD 4870 X2 can be further optimized and improved by upgrading the forceware according to its opponent. For now, we dont know NVIDIA will release GeForce GTX 280 GX2 or not.

In addition, Radeon HD 4870 X2 will be released 6 weeks later after Radeon HD 4850/4870 released, that is the beginning of August.

agreed, if a card is cheaper and performs better than a more expensive card, i could care less about the number of cores it has.

if you've been paying attention to graphics news lately, the GTX 280 is going to be priced at around $600, and the 4870X2 will be priced around $500.

Like was said, ATi stated they would undercut Nvidia in price every time, the figure that circulated was $500 USD as was stated, vs $650 for Nvidias competing part.

This also ties in with ATi's claim in late april that the prices of the 4 series would be about the same as the 3 series was at the time.
