And if god didn't want us to kill other people, he would've made that impossible too, but we can, so that's all good eh? We can also choose to not even believe in a god(s), so that must be ok too, otherwise god would've made us believe in it/him/her/theyFEOS wrote:

i thought the topic said "Should Atheists be Vampires",but its just my senile dementia showing up again.
But anyways it all boils down to life style choices, eat what you want basically.you cant say "no you cant eat that because blah blah blah".
And i'm one of those who has to watch what i eat for health reasons, still eat meat but grilled only, and fatty bits cut off.

What he's saying is that if God didn't want us to eat meat he wouldn't have made it tasty. Most people have an aversion to killing and (seem to) want to believe in God.Mek-Stizzle wrote:

Just eat frekkin meat you atheist excon
My life is more precious to me then the life of a cow so I'll eat all the damn cows I want.
I think eating meat is just part of the food chain. We've eaten meat for thousands of years, it's just something that's a part of us. That said, I try to get organic and free-range meat / animal products when possible. Just because we're above animals on the food chain doesn't mean we should them like shit. To say animals don't feel anything is complete bullshit. Dogs and cats obviously feel pain. Hell, some dogs get separation anxiety when their owner is out of the house for a while. Dogs get very happy when their owner returns home.
I find it odd how so many people pass off vegetables, fruits, and whatnot as not being "alive" as animals are. Sure, they make up the two different scientific kingdoms, but it is representative of living orgranisms. People don't really think past plants being alive further than "Oh I didn't water my daffodils so they died" but what makes plants so different than animals? They've got living cells in them, they grow, move (to a lesser extent), have needs, can get diseases...et cetera. Plants are just as valuable as animals, so what makes eating them okay?
They don't think or feel pain.

That's an interesting idea, but I'm still eating meat.twiistaaa wrote:
Firstly i am an Atheist and i am a meat eater.
But i was just thinking (this is directed to atheists, religious people may be able to come up with an answer based on philosophy) since atheists don't believe in god and know that the chance of being alive is so rare, is it wrong to take the life of an animal for food (when alternative food is available)? we are all animals, we are all related and we have all been lucky enough to experience life through whatever evolutionary route our ancestors have taken. is it wrong to end the existence of an animal from another species (while it is excepted that we shouldn't take the lives of our own esp for food)?
does our enjoyment of meat eating overide the value of an animals life based on the extreme odds it was even given a chance at life in the first place (i suppose one case is that particular animals wouldn't even be alive if we didn't choose to breed them for food, but that is a pretty poor chance at "life").
i'm still eating meat, just food for thought.
That conflict with the whole ''freewill'' idea that is an entirely different argument. I don't see what is being acheived going on the defensive saying why should we stop when THEY arent. The OP asked a question of people of a similar persuasion as he is, that's all. No need to get touchy If u disagree, fine.Mek-Stizzle wrote:

Well, for one, plants want us to eat their fruit. That's what fruit evolved for, a way to transport their seeds: animals eat the fruit, walk away, take a shit and now the seeds are 1) away from the parent plant and 2) fertilized. Plants are not capable of any level of thought, they have no nerves...DesertFox- wrote:

Whoa... Can't believe these forums are still kicking.

Jimmy: Uhh, Mr. McClure? I have a crazy friend who says its wrong to eat meat. Is he crazy?
Troy: Nooo, just ignorant. You see your crazy friend never heard of "The Food Chain".

And yes, meat = nom nom nom delish. I like a nice blackened salmon with this killer citrus sauce.
Humans are animals too. We earned our position at the top of the food chain through evolution. Enjoy it.
Animals serve two purposes:
1) To be delicious
and
2) To fit right

i'm not sure what the odds are on life. but in our own solar system there is a 1 in 9 chance life could begin due to the conditions of a specific planet.Nappy wrote:
im aetheist and i dont think a chance of life is extremely rare, or whatever,
all the previous events of our solar system have led us to this point, is that common place throughout or is it a 1 in a trillion chance that life has the resourses to start let alone also having the specific conditions to start?
once life has begun development it probably isn't that hard or rare to maintain and be granted. but everything has to be inplace first is where the rarity comes into play.

I made this burger a little while back. It contains the following meats:
Lamb, beef, chicken, venison, bacon, turkey, ostrich, kangaroo, duck, rabbit.
Thats ten. Count them, ten different animals. Ten different kinds of animal died to make my burger, and fuck me did it taste good!
Burger and red wine?
Also, recipe?
