Higher memory is normally only used for high res screens or dual monitors and whatnot.

Generally you won't need >256MB for resolutions under or including 1440x900 / 1280x1024. I'm finally about to sell up everything and get myself a laptop, and 256MB will be more than enough to handle games that your computer can handle.

So Ted, It looks as though you're set. But I would still just wait until the 4 Series comes out.

I guess, as Sup. said you probably won't use all the features of the P35.

That is up to you. It will save you money though.

And the wait... Not sure, but will be shortly after June 23rd when NV release their new card. I think, correct me If I'm wrong

I disagree.  On dx10 games atleast the higher memory really beings to come into it's own.  256 will show its age much quicker than 512 will.  In the case of cards like the 8800 GT the extra RAM isnt that much more.  I say get it.  Even at your rez

I go for the second option if i drop the mobo to the P31 and wait for the 4*** cards to come out

So where's the best place (UK based) to buy all this stuff?

I'm sorry, but there is. At the bottom end of the market. The most accurate 'measure' of the raw grunt performance of a cpu (which is the primary factor in the 'feel' of using that PC) is the per-core clock speed. A notional 2.0GHz Quad will feel slower than 3.0GHz Single.

I'm sorry but clock speed between different generations (or manufacturers) of cpu's doesn't mean shit.  A 2.0 ghz C2D of C2Q would be and feel faster than an old P4.  The C2 series dose more per clock cycle therefore even a cpu with a slower clock would actually be faster.

Well, we're arguing over a subjective - in my experience I can tell the difference, from the responsiveness of windows/games/etc, between a 2Ghz core clock and a 3GHz one, irrespective of cpu generation.

i recommend you just upgrade your motherboard with a package. I have recently bought this package for £58.00 plus P&P from the internet, you get a motherboard, ram and a CPU. plus cables and CD's.

http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?Mod … mp;doy=3m6

its a 2.2ghz dual core processor with 1mb ddr2 ram, plus its a am2 socket which will support am3 processors when released. the board also has a PCI-E slot

but check the links below of these bundles of both intel and amd

http://www.maplin.co.uk/search.aspx?Men … mp;doy=8m6

http://www.maplin.co.uk/Search.aspx?men … Processors

i personally prefer amd as they are cheaper and perform well.

you might need to change you PSU but that isn't too costly

That's pretty darn good.

CPU speed is only slightly slower than what you're replacing - you may notice that, or you may not.

Everything else looks good. Maybe not 'preferred' manufactures, imo, on the PSU and GPU, but the specs are all good for that price.

The PSU is a beaut, kyle recommended the 600W version to me and it's amazingly powerful yet quiet.
