Should I install Vista SP1? I heard from some people it totally messed up performance, others say it helped. What does bf2s say?

I installed it for Vista Home Premium x64... everything is running smoothly. I wouldn't say I saw a noticeable increase in performance, but I certainly didn't see a decrease. I don't see why you shouldn't, I'm sure the service pack includes a lot of important fixes and upgrades. If it really hurt performance, MS wouldn't have released it.

I installed it on my wife's laptop when it first came out and it seems to work fine. I haven't had any weird issues since the SP.

Back up-> install.
If anything screws up try recovery or reformat.

hold on, NO. although i trust you guys, there's really no need for me to get the SP. i'm not taking a chance.

I understand that. I held out on XP SP2 for nearly a year before finally downloading it.

Haffey install SP1 when Vista will start messing up and a reinstall will be needed. I usually reinstall Windows twice a year or restore it from an image and before reinstall I always try new things.

I installed it and had no problems with home basic 32 bit... the only thing I got out of it was that it was finally showing that i had 4gb of Ram rather then 3.25 GB. I haven't had any problems at all although that being said you may have some troubles if your computer has the bare minimum to run vista, but looking at your sig you should be fine. In the end if it screws up your computer I am sure you can un-install it.

Better to install now when you don't have as many files as later on. If it screws up, it won't be nearly as bad.

Exactly. Whilst MS are well known to fuck everything up they touch, I'd much rather have a OS with new security holes that aren't yet known than the old ones that are.

I had a Dell with it....all sound lagged like fuck and then I got a virus. Re installed and now it runs so smooth and get no sound lag at all.

I think it varies a lot between person to person and from rig to rig on what effect it has on their PC.

What are your specs?
