And people still contend that AIPAC don't have a completely inordinate amount of control over US foreign policy...

When Bush addressed the Israeli parliament on Israel's 60th anniversary he said the establishment of Israel had been "the redemption of an ancient promise given to Abraham and Moses and David - a homeland for the chosen people Eretz Yisrael". What a kick in the teeth to all those wrongfully dispossessed of their land. US politicians seem even more Zionist than many Israelis, including Olmert.

Raptures don't start themselves.  Bush and Christians like him believe that one of the prerequisites for the second coming is that the Jews occupy their land.  Democrats are terrified of being labeled antisemitic so they just go along with anything.  And Israel continues to be one of our little welfare states, much like Alabama or Louisiana.

Except part of that tax money isn't going to 'your country' - it's paying for weapons for a country thousands of miles away. A country with an extremely poor human rights record.

Because US policy WRT Israel started in 2001, right? Or was it a Democrat (not an evangelical neocon) who recognized Israel within seconds of the proclamation of its existence?

Reiterating the Israeli belief of why they deserve a homeland does not equate to an attempt to bring the Rapture to pass.

Thats ok. Im happy to report I'm happy we give to these countries, too.

Ireland: http://rothman.house.gov/news_releases/2006/june19.htm
Albania: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/ar … Oct21.html
Africa (2008): Africa-with this year's requested 54% increase, aid to Africa will have nearly quadrupled under this Administration, from $1.1 billion to $4.4 billion, focused on addressing the crippling effects of disease and poverty.

I think Ive made my point. No wait actually if you add it up, the private citizens of my country give more than the government, so whats your point?

I don't think the Republic of Ireland - the second richest country in Europe per capita after Luxembourg - needs or is seeing any aid from the US (other than non-governmental political donations to the likes of Sinn Féin, the political wing of the IRA). Ireland's human rights record is pretty immaculate anyway, no Wahabi Islam or Guantanamo Bays here.
