Been looking around for a laptop next fall for college/gaming, my price range is around $1300.  I've been looking on ebay and i ran across some used alienwares, like this http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi … amp;ih=019
my tech skills are very minimal, so i was wondering if this would be something worth the money.  Any other suggestions in my price range would be great too, thanks guys.

What do you want the laptop to do?

No sense spending 1300$ on something you won't play games on. You could get away with 800-1000$ and still have a nice non-gaming system.

If you're gonna be gaming, you can still get something new for around that much money. Check Newegg.com, they have some good ones by Asus, Acer, and such.

The Dell XPS laptops are actually pretty good for gaming.

1500$, a little over your budget, but it's a very nice laptop. Should play all modern games decently.

I think I'm set on this one.  It's gotten great reviews, and for the price seems like a great deal.  Thanks for your help

Asus is a reputable laptop manufacturer, even their cheaper notebooks have fairly decent build quality. The only thing that tends to bother me (dunno if this has been rectified yet) is that the battery life is generally sub par.

However, you might want to look at this. It's $50 over your price range, but it's actually quite nice. 17" screen, above average build quality for such a "cheap" notebook, 8800m GTS (not the 9500m GS or the 8600 - the 8800), and 4 gigs of RAM standard. Of course, the processor isn't all that great but the GPU generally tends to be the biggest bottleneck (I believe) and it's a lot easier to upgrade the processor than the GPU (which is almost always impossible to upgrade). It's got very good reviews as being a great budget notebook that's capable of tackling a lot of current games head on. But yeah, like any big powerful notebook, it has shit battery life, dunno if that's important for you.

for 1250 bucks, i just bought a laptop at best buy. i think now the price went up to 1350.

it has a t5550, 8800m gts and a 17in screen, vista 64bit, and 4gb of ram

its a gateway fx.  eats up anything i throw at it.

it is also upgradeable to a t9300, if you got the dough later.

wow uh......^^^^^^^^^^that guy beat me by a minute.
