you are woken up at 3 am from someone smashing your back door open, by the time you are fully awake you can hear them slowly creeping down the hall

Poseidon, I frankly, form your other posts, do not consider you to be an idiot. By that, I mean you seem the relatively intelligent sort of person. Please take some formal training before you buy a gun. Take classes. Train. Talk to police officers. But get those silly notions of yours out of your head before you actually get in a situation like that. Please.Poseidon wrote:
Aim the gun, tell them to leave now or that I'll shoot, and try to shoot them non-lethally if they refuse.

I've talked to police officers, a former army corporal, a former Airman (not that he's got much firing experience), and someone who's got a collection of guns. I don't need them to set my moral standards.imortal wrote:

Now that I have rediculed you, the attitude you display is pretty common, and very frightening to those of us who are or were "in the business." I actually had a woman ask me "If you don't like where the bullet is going, how do you call it back?"

I would blow him the fuck away. One reason would be to keep him and his ACLU lawyer from suing me for scaring himSEREMAKER wrote:

Just so you know, here in Florida just pointing your gun at someone constitutes deadly force. If I decided to use my gun, I'm going for center of mass.Poseidon wrote:

If I have the time to do so, I'm not going to shoot to kill. And in this case, I most likely WOULD have time to decide.
And I will be taking classes, by the way. When I get a gun I'll be living in Florida (for college) and they're a pretty gun happy state, so...we'll see. Maybe my opinion will change. Actually, it probably will. But right now, if I were to be in that situation, I'd atleast try or not want to kill the person, just "end the threat" like you say.
Again, whether that would actually happen is another story entirely.
That and it avoids a lot of legal stuff, like them suing you.Parker wrote:

bottom line, simple as, end of.
How exactly did he win? Did they forget he was breaking into somebodies home?........CaptainSpaulding71 wrote:
There was a case of a burglar breaking into a house's skylight. He fell through the skylight and landed on the kitchen counter which had a stack of knives on it. He landed square on these knives which stuck him pretty badly. He sued and won for damages.
screw the wounding crap...aim for the head. if they are still alive they can sue you.
