Post 01 on new PC

ok so i went ahead and ordered all but the graphics card for my new pc, puttin in a temp graphics card. But anyway, i put everything together, barely managing to put the CPU together [intel made a terrible heatsing/fan combo for their core2 duos]..

Anyway, i plug it in and nothing happens. Just a red light on the mobo and the post says 2, then 0.1..

The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. After doing a quick read-up on your mobo, it seems that it hasn't got very good native support for 45nm CPUs. Try sticking in an old 90/65nm CPU and update your BIOS.

The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

So what should i do?

I don't think it would be a problem with the CPU, wouldn't it at least power up the fans and such? its only loading up the mobo and nothing else...

small update: ok so i went ahead and plugged the power supply into a Dell, and the new one only powered it for a few seconds. the fan started to spin then it just went to an orange blinking light on the dell itself. I made sure it was set correctly...

Confirmed?

I thought Dell computers used a proprietary power supply... Does anyone else know if they do?

Regarding your original problem, I doubt it's the power supply if you power-on and and get a POST code...but it's been a long while since I have done any troubleshooting on a new system. Does your motherboard manual give you any POST code information?

Disconnect/remove everything except the CPU, one stick of RAM in the very first slot, and the video card. See if it works then?

What does the manual say that code means?

Edit: Check all the power connections to make sure you have it all hooked up properly.

I think the board is a dud. because the fans spin briefly then just stop. I think i should RMA it. What do you think?

still nothing as far as any hardware though - no picture, sound, or anything...

I looked at the pictures long enough to see that they were larger than my screen, so I didn't look hard. Those threads basically say "we all overlooked something obvious and forgot to power something properly" or whatever.

I also suspect that his power on/reset buttons are switched. Another person had the same problem as the OP and it was because they weren't actually turning it on. His turned on when he pressed reset...it seems like a logical conclusion.

But yes, power is good for electronic devices.

But now i dont think my CD drive in there will fit into any available motherboard slots.... i will probably need to go pick one up.

you shouldn't need the molex by the pci-e slots. It's just there to add power of you are using 2 graphics cards pretty much. I've never plugged anything in there on my board (same one) with an 8800gt. if it wasn't a pain for the cable management i'd probably plug it in just for shits and giggle but you very well may not need it.

Well, i plugged em all in and it fired right up. So im happy. now i just gotta go grab a sata cd/dvd drive because my IDE one isn't compatible with this mobo.

Anyway, I should be up and running tomorrow night.
