So this has been happening since day once and I thought I'd finally ask for help. Certain models just give my video card a heart attack. Sometimes it's the opposite team's skin or flag (that's always fun when I can't cap a flag) or sometimes it's random things.

What happens is that if I look one direction (say north), I can barely move. If I turn around, my FPS shoot back up to 70 FPS or so. Distance also seems to be a factor (far vs. near models perhaps?).

Has anyone else heard of an issue like this? Driver version doesn't seem to matter, nor does formatting (done both). I have a BFG Tech 6800 GT OC at "stock" speeds.

One of my friends has the same video card but doesn't have the same problems that you are having.  Are you sure that nothing is running in the background that may slow things down?

But you see, it's not overall slowness. I look one direction and I'm lagging so bad that I can barely move. The moment I turn around, my FPS are just fine.

That's odd...

Can you give me your full system specs?

I'll try and FRAPS it the next time it happens.

Hmmm I have a more mundane system Dell Dimension 4600. with 3.5G ram Last week put in a new PC Power and Cooling 470W PS and the same BFG Card the 6800 GS.

I have no problems and no lag issues. (North East South or West...LOL)
I'm running EVERY thing on HIGH except the 4x AA from the game, I have the card handle the 4x AA and 2X antro.

2 gigs and Memtest86+ reports no issues after running for an hour or two.

how's this for weird: i recently switched my textures from 'medium' to 'high', and i got a better fps than i had before... wtf??!? no complaining, because it's cool, but just have noooo ide why that would happen

Yeah the same thing happens to me with the textures.  I think there might be certain settings that play off of each other and work well together.  When I had everything on high except textures on medium it ran slower than if I just ran everything on high.

Viper007Bond, all I can say is to try a reinstall and/or defrag.  Maybe some of the texture files got messed up.  I remember when Half-Life 2 did that.  A reinstall fixed it.

Your computer seems very capable of running BF2 nicely so that's all I can recommend.

I've formatted at least once since I got BF2, probably twice. It hasn't helped.

I have this problem sometimes. When it happens I just stuck in one place and can't move. Seconds later this thing is gone. But I don't experience this problem very often. I have a crappy system with 512 Mb ram. It is not PC related I think. Most likely it is a connection problems or server lag/overload. Try to turn off all your user processes, turn off firewall and automatic updates. Set video on lowest etc. Then try.  I hope it will solve your problem

That's a pretty nice setup. What can you do with that arctic cooling HSF?

The same thing happens to me it seems.  I hate it, Ithink it's mostly because my computer is a piece of shit though.

Your issue is totally different -- either lack of RAM related or Internet lag. Mine is neither as I can watch my FPS be sub-10 and if I turn around, 80. If I turn back around, it's single digits again.

It makes my video card quieter, my case cooler (spits the heat out the back), and allows me to overclock farther, when I'm in the mood to OC that is.

But does it happen every time? If so, then that's just your video card being underpowered.

For me, most of the time it doesn't happen. It only happens from time to time.

Hi, I have the EXACT same problem. It usually accures after a few rounds. I reasontly increased my ram amount (from 1gig to 2gig mainly because of this game), and it only made it happen after more rounds then before. Its especcially bad in bf2:sf, so I only play the original at the moment. I seriously hate it. BF2 is such a great game, but getting killed more times in a row because of these hookups are agrovating. Its like, you look in a certain directions and its 1-2 fps. Sometimes also happens in chopper or vehicle with fatal outcome.
I have a Athlon 64 3200+, 2 gig ddr 400mhz and a GF 6800U.

I reasontly formattet my system but didn't help. Anyone know anything helpful?

Just curious.  How are you guys measuring your FPS? Can this be adjusted also?  I have an EVGA 7800 and was curious to what kind of FPS I am getting.
Thanks

go into your bios and turn up you settings to 256 mb on the video card it will store more textures into your memory instead of your hard drive

I'm using FRAPS, but this works as well:

Code:

renderer.drawfps 1

Uh, textures are loaded into your RAM, not your hard drive.

And regardless, I have a Raptor and it doesn't do it most of the time.

How many watts is your power supply? If your power supply is underpowered then it isn't giving enough power to your videocard.

It should be 400W or more.

I got a 500W PS...I'll try FRAPS and let y'all know.  Thanks
