Why don't people play on small maps?
If you ask me, big maps are usually pretty boring. You never get to see the enemy and spend most of the time wandering around vast, lonely, open spaces looking for something to do. The only thing that breaks the tedium is getting bombed to smithereeens by aircrfaft if you get into a vehicle or try to cap a flag. Is there anything I'm missing?
Small maps, on the other hand, offer higher population density and therefore more combat, along with, in many cases, a completely different gameplay experience to the large versions. Example: Tabarra Quarry 16 player is probably the best map in the game for armour battles, undisturbed by jets or choppers to ruin the fun, yet I have never seen a populated server running it. Or consider 16 player Jalalabad on inf only. No need for the boring sniper standoff in the desert, cut straight to the urban close-quarter savagery. And then there is Great Wall. The only populated servers that run it all play the big version, which is vastly inferior to the cool 16 player one.
The reason why maps like Karkand, Warlord and Ghost Town are popular is because they are small and densely packed. So why do so many servers run huge empty maps?
