The creulty of nature. Take my pet cat for example, Lily. She is more of a hunter over my other cat, Bertie. Anyway, Lily has caught countless birds over the 2 years i've had them. Many of these were baby birds, without feathers. Yesterday she caught a baby bird again, luckily this time she killed it.

But alot of the time she doesn't. If cats aren't taught by their mothers how to kill, they never learn how to. Either they kill it, or they just catch it and use it as a toy.

Like when she found the nest of rats, i know they are vermin and all, but they were tiny babies. Luckily with the rats she killed them, and ate them like she normally does since we limited the amount of meat that she can eat 'cause its unhealthy. Anyway i'm just rambling.

So, anyway although this process of animals killing each other is very necessary, does anyone find that it is so cruel? Especially when you have to pick up and bin the dead animals that your pets catch, or try and save them like i managed to do a few weeks ago.

mother nature at work

what I do hate is hunters that kill and don't do anything with the kill

I hunt but what I kill I keep and eat

Welcome to reality.  Bambi is prey.  The cute and cuddly often die brusome deaths.  Animals have no concience.  A lamb can only coexist with a lion from the inside. Mother nature is brutal, but I would not call it cruel; that is an imposition of our morals onto a structure without morality.

And no, they don't really talk.

Its the cycle of life.  Where do you think that hamburger, steak and chicken come from?  Granted you didn't have to slaughter it, but someone did.

The most hunting and killing my cat gets is bugs.  If a spider or centipede is unlucky enough to show itself to my cat, it will soon be alive with only 1 or 2 legs left....and toyed with until he gets bored and eats it.

Anything less is just wasteful, really.

You know what's stupid? That every time a human gets killed by an animal, we feel the need to exterminate all animals of that type in that particular area. If you walk into bear/wolf/crocodile territory, you should not expect that you're in the right.

I've got a bloodhound that just likes to track, wont actually kill anything. She'd much rather eat out of a bowl. Domesticated ftw.

More then likely they are not killing the animals because they don't want nor need to eat them. But are looking for something to play with because they are bored. The same reason Dogs chase cats, not to kill them but just for a game.

None of our cats kill wildlife any more, and the most they ever killed were some lizards. But my cat still stalks our bird, It will hide in the grass, slowly stalk the bird and even pounce, but instead of attacking he just lands next to the bird, turns his back and walks away. (fyi: The bird can't fly) It's extremely amusing to watch.

I'm not sure if this is true but:

As i understand it, Cats think they own you. Them bringing you half dead animals is an invitation "to finish it off" - They're trying to teach you to hunt.

Pet cats kill animals for their amusement not coz they are hungry.  My cats have killed a lot of birds and they never ate them.  Now I live in an apartment and I have only one cat, a Siamese one.  He's kinda dumb, and he can't catch a cold.  And cats know how to kill a pray even if they weren't taught by their mother.

My cat, Bertie is stupid, slow and allergic to something in my garden, its kinda funny and cute watching him sneeze and look supprised. Also he hasn't realised that bee's sting you when you hurt them

Cats are awesome.  Had several at my parents house and they liked to play with bees, hornets, garter snakes, etc.  Since I currently rent, the extra cost the landlord demands to have a pet is just too much.  I miss watching them play and pounce on things.  *stalk stalk stalk SPROIIIING* Huh, now where did it go ... ah yes.  *stalk stalk stalk*
