Dems seek to silence... The Pentagon?

The situation in Iraq is better off than it has been in years. The troop surge has worked. Unfortunately for the Democrats, they have deemed Iraq a failure. However this isn't the case. The US is making substantial progress over there. However that doesn't fit their strategy. So what do the Dems want to do? They don't want you to hear about the progress. They don't want you to hear that the surge worked. The Dems have tried all ready and failed to silence some of the conservative voices on air, so they merely adjusted their sights on the military.

Iraq will always be a failure unless the US gets paid back the $500+ billion dollars spent there. Our government sold us out and my kids will have nothing due to the debt that Bush has run up rebuilding our enemies fortress.

The link you posted is about congress trying to curb propaganda from the Pentagon. The point being that most people don't want their tax money being spent by the government on new and exciting ways to lie to them.

Apparently the site you linked is in favour of wasting your tax dollars on propaganda.

This bill is supposed to stop the military from sending “any form of communication in support of national objectives designed to influence the opinions, emotions, attitudes or behavior of the people of the United States in order to benefit the sponsor, either directly or indirectly.”

That means just saying "We are doing a good job," or "We are winning," or "we won a battle at..." would all be illegal. Directly or indirectly.

Any and every form of communication from one person to another is designed to solicit a response of some sort. The bill, if that is the actual wording, is designed to keep the Department of Defense from releasing any statement into the public awareness on any subject, at any time.

It's actually illegal to purposefully target the US public with influence messages (ie, PSYOP). The whole movement toward "strategic communication" has gotten many of us in the information operations mission area very nervous and concerned. Put out PA announcements, but don't purposefully target with themes and messages...at least not the US.

Pretty much the way I feel.

We went and messed with people who didn't want to be messed with. Who is President Bush to think he can run around the world spending my money "spreading democracy". Last time I checked that wasn't in his job description.

The article and its links discuss efforts to remove as much spin and bias as possible on military-related Government matters - a sound concept in theory; such efforts should in effect cover anti-war spin and bias too (though, as the article says, such laws would be very hard to effectively enforce given the subjective nature of propaganda). Are you saying you prefer heavy dollops of propaganda with everything your Government tells you?

And by the way that website seems like a great champion of propaganda!
