wow, I am in favor of long painful deaths for criminals. In the US it takes a lot to be sentenced to death and most people die on death row because the system is so slow. A good stoning or two might make some of the murders think twice about it or at the very least allow the victim's family a couple hours of enjoyment to start the healing.
Ignoring the fact that I was referring to more than just execution, there's also a difference between having death sentences or not. It's bigger.M.O.A.B wrote:

Difference between being stoned to death by an angry crowd or publically hung than being put to sleep with a lethal injection.
There are rare cases where the crime is severe enough and the minor is old enough that the system elects to charge them as an adult.PureFodder wrote:

It's not like we lock up tweens for 80 years for spitting on the sidewalk.

The US is the ONLY country (excluding the severely fucked up places where getting records is impossible, for them we'll assume they are all worse than the US) that allows this punishment.FEOS wrote:

Apparently 2,225 people are sentenced to die in U.S. prisons for crimes they committed as minors and 73 of them were aged 13 and 14 at the time of the crime.
Shall we start with being the only Western nation to se the death penalty?FEOS wrote:

I think this post on Digg about something (that happened in the US!) sums it up nicely:

I honestly don't give a damn if it's "vengeance" or whatever. Tell me with a straight face that you'd kill a man, rape a person, whatever if you knew that getting caught would result in your execution.
In regards to this article:The minimum age needs to be dropped. You can;t tell me that kids 14-18 don't know what they are doing. This isn't the 80's where 16 year olds would be in bed by 8:30 and staying home on the weekend to play board games with their parents. They know exactly what they are doing and they need to be accountable for it. Get with the times legal system.

Now they're (at some point in time no thanks to how slow the system is) getting their comeuppance. They thought they could get away with it; they were wrong.PureFodder wrote:

So clearly people will rape and kill knowing that they might end up being executed for it.HurricaИe wrote:

Do you see people going in masses to rape and kill? Oh... no? It's usually people with a criminal history or who are just jaded in the head?PureFodder wrote:

Nope, but I also don't see that in countries without the death penalty.HurricaИe wrote:

That's only an issue if you don't agree with the death penalty. Since I have no problem with it, there's no "state" of the US legal system that's a problem in that regard.ZombieVampire! wrote:

But certainly if you view being stuck in the Dark Ages as a serious issue and grounds for complaint, then the US is little better.
If you honestly think the US legal system is comparable to legal systems from the Dark Ages, you need to get off the internet and go to the library a bit more.ZombieVampire! wrote:

The death penalty doesn't generally deter most violent crime because people often kill or rape "out of passion." It might deter premeditated violent crime though...
EIther way, Iran never fails to disgust.

Go read about the US legal system and then read about legal systems from the Dark Ages and you'll figure it out yourself.ZombieVampire! wrote:

They shouldn't have executed the kid.
We don't know what the judicianal system is like there. It may be the boy was plainly innocent but was tortured into a confession anyway. There's any number of situations that could have occured that lead to a false conviction.
To blindly say it was alright for a kid to lose his life against UN regulations is highly ignorant.

I just figured the original crime ought to be more shocking. However, in all crimes of these sorts that are committed against children, someone underage is harmed, to put it lightly.
I think Iran want an invasion in order to use their nuclear arsenal.
