the reason people are so pissed off isn't because he threw a dog off a cliff. its because he smiled and laughed while doing it. its something that goes against everything all of us can fathom. its so unamerican, and yet, here's somebody tasked with representing everything that is america and defending it to his death, and he's throwing dogs off a cliff.

its something your average middle class presbyterian yuppie can't fathom. so, because its so odd, they get angry. if he had just thrown the dog off the cliff and walked away, without the laughter, people would have been disturbed, saddened, and probably would have moved on, or it wouldn't have even gotten the attention it did.

edit: the puppy definitely is either alive or stuffed, not dead. look at the hind legs, they're curled up.

For the record. There is too much shit in the world for us to get pissed at everything that we absorb. It doesn't mean you have to condone the trash though. That's the point I'm trying to explain.

To the original point you were trying to make.

I didn't pass judgement based on what I saw in a 30 sec youtube video. I placed my faith in the ruling by the Marines after they did their investigation. I would presume that this was more than watching a youtube clip.
You would presume...you don't know. They would have hung him out to dry even if he did very little wrong to be honest because this has already gotten so much bad media. Don't be such a sheep.
Whats the matter? Don't you support the Marine Corps? Your making your own presumptions on what they would have done at this very moment.. sheep lol.
No, I am very wary of anyone in charge. They aren't anywhere near the war either, just like you and I, and they have bigger concerns than the fate of a single marine. Sociology 101, come on.

Before you start doing that, do you have any reason to believe what you just claimed?

I understand that FM. But I've also seen the military go to bat and stand by their servicemen.

Hrmmm, attack on Pakistan, a country that most Americans probably think has afternoon tea with Bin Laden, or American Marine throwing a puppy on video with 2.6 million views...clearly the first takes more courage to denounce than the second.

Why'd you quote me on that?

I was just wondering why you jumped to immediately assuming that the marine was punished solely for the satisfaction of the media/public.
The military could have done nothing after their investigation, and I bet that very few people would have remembered the incident.

You mean like flushing the Koran down the toilet? That bad press always amazed me. Is it even possible?

If you want I'll give you a list (see my previous post on the Koran). My point was that they have stood by the decisions/actions of their personnel. The military is battling domestic and world opinion. The American left wing blogs have been all over the Pakistan story as well. I'd say it takes more courage to stand behind the decision that lead to dead people, not dead puppies.

It should, but it doesn't. People hear about people dying every day, including American people, but they have become desensitized to it. A puppy being chucked off the cliff on the other hand...that's new, it sticks, and it generates ruckus.

I look at it more as "great, this too". Just throwing another log on the fire. That's why I said I wasn't pissed.

The men, maybe women, in the enlisted rank really don't follow Political Correctness protocol. Death surrounds our troops and they have to learn to cope with it, sometimes with humor. It was a bad personal judgement call on their part but who knows what would trigger a person to do something out of the ordinary in a highly streessed situation, I don't fault them. When it comes to the news media or a video camera, it is best to keep your mouth shut or walk away.

If the animal activists are concern about one dead puppy; they should refocus their attention on the stray domestic animals in Iraq.

Countless dogs and other animals starve to death every day, China took sticks to most of their dog population and beat them to death in front of their owners in the strets. If the puppy was going to die and fall killed the puppy then I'm okay with it, there's a lot more brutality happening every day to animals that is a lot more important that needs to be looked at.

People die all the time, animals die all the time ... you think this is sad? Then why not sort out a hunting problem?

This doesn't bother me in the slightest, being honest. Sure it is sad, but no one knows what those guys are going through except for them, and they kill people every day. Should they be expelled for killing people?
