my friend got a new comp, but we can't get the sound to work. latest drivers installed, and it is enabled in the bios (onboard sound). it is realtedk hd audio. under the hardware manager it doesn't say anything about realtek for the sound, but for the network it does. running xp. can't even access volume control, and all of the fields are grayed out in sounds and audio devices. what should i do?

Your sound device is listed in device manager with no problems?
