IIRC, normally people do buy the iPhone without contracts. You start up a contract by connecting your iPhone to iTunes.

Dude I know that........but they are going to activate the phone in store now so I was asking if it was still possible to buy a phone without activation if it is, it is most likely to be at a much higher price  i guess.

Oh. Not officially, I'm sure...but after the launch I think you can probably get one off eBay that doesn't have activation.

God, the lines on July 11th are going to be horrid, especially since it's not just buy and go anymore, it's buy, activate and go. Looks like I'll be setting up for another midnight launch...only my second ever! (first was GTA IV)
