city. one was on a residential road with no traffic at all. some old dude was backing out of his driveway...

How am I not smart for lane splitting? I don't get it. It's not like you're going down the whole road doing it, just to pass a few cars.
Nothing wrong with splitting imho. Quite common in the rush hour traffic here when the traffic stands still. I used to do it when I had a bike and now I'm rotting away in my Ford POS jamming in the traffic. Besides, you can get killed taking out your doggie for a walk. Knowing your bike and your skills is more than good. Especially how to stop(pie ) fast when needed. And it's good to remember that every moving thing is your enemy and they can't see/hear you even if they do. This one lady was changing lanes one morning and apparently I was in a blind spot. Lucky thing the road was flooded with cars and was moving slowly so she couldn't change lanes in a rush. The look on her face was something like when I was next to her door looking at her .

Doubt it.

Life insurance takes a hit though.

Insurance on bikes is around half that of a car for your average joe.
Dear God please let my karma one day reach 100, whether it be tomorrow or 1000 years in the future i want it to happen.

My Dad has a Kawasaki ZRX 1100 in Kawasaki green and blue. It's an awesome bike, comfortable as a car in my opinion, and has the power to reach good speeds if you need to

1) What experience do you have?  Any formal training?  I recommend an MSF class.

2) To you idiots recommending liter bikes - NO.  If you've never ridden before you won't have the skills to properly ride it.

Read this article to get some ideas.  Mainly the fact that the 250cc's can still dust most (non-sports) cars on the road, but will be much safer doing it.  The 750/1k bikes are so monstrously powerful, that an inexperienced rider will have a shitload of problems keeping it under control.

Look at the Ninja 250.  It looks damn good, splits lanes awesomely, and has enough power to get you where you need to go.  Not only that, but they resell very well as starter bikes.  Also make sure to get a full face helmet and some good riding gear.  Riding a bike, safety should be top priority.

Performance stats
0-60 mph ----- 5.75 s
1/4 mile ----- 14.6 s @ 88 mph
Maximum speed ----- 105 mph (169 km/h)
Fuel Efficiency ----- 55-75 mpg US

Good point this. Start on something like a 250, or even a 125.
